“There was a problem adding Sonos Voice Control. Make sure product is connected to Wi-Fi.”

This is the error I have been getting every time I try adding SVC. Was able to add Alexa and it works. My phone with the Sonos App is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Roam 2 , same channel. T

When I try to add SVC, it takes several minutes until that error message above is displayed.

Tried using a different WiFi router, logging off/on from the Sonos App, re-installing the app. But for some reason, I cannot get SVC added. Would really like to do away with Alexa, if I can only add SVC.

Any ideas? Why I cant add SVC to Roam 2? What is causing this?

Sorry if this the approach that you’ve already tried but can you open the Sonos App and select Settings>Manage>Voice Assistants  Is SVC shown as enabled?  If yes, are you able to select it and add you device?

As per: https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/sonos-voice-control-requests-not-working

Yes, SVC is shown as enabled, and I am able to select it and it actually goes thru the several steps asking for the language (English or French), accepting terms of use, selecting the device, and the last step to “add voice control”.

And then it is showing a progress bar (well, a circle), and it is showing the progress moving, the circle is being filled-up. It takes some minutes, before it is fully filled-up, and then the error  “There was a problem adding Sonos Voice Control. Make sure product is connected to Wi-Fi.” is displayed, asking me to try again.

Thanks for the reply!

I've got exactly the same issue

Hi @audiophile2b and @BeamingNightmare,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues adding Sonos Voice to your system.

You’ve already done what I would have suggested in your original post, besides rebooting your Roam 2. If you have done that or you’re still having trouble adding Sonos Voice, then the next step would be to reach out to our support team for further troubleshooting assistance.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Jamie A.

I was finally able to add Sonos Voice Control. I noticed there was an available system update. After applying the update, and tried adding SVC. It finally worked. So I now have SVC (in addition to Alexa, which I will not be using anymore).

Thanks again for the reply. Turns out I dont need to contact the Support Team.

(Just logging it here. Just in case someone encounters the same issue. And hopefully, this helps SONOS technical team in troubleshooting the issue, tagging @Jamie A  here).

After several days of SVC working… well mostly, since asking SVC to set timers is not working (it says it encountered an error) nor can I ask it for weather updates, since I cannot update my weather location in the Sonos App (it displays an error every time I try to set weather location), but I still can use SVC to play music though (everything works, asking to play a playlist, albums, etc..), so it is still okay, but then …

SVC suddenly stopped working. It does not respond to any commands at all. Rebooted the device, still not working. Logged-off, logged-on the Sonos App, still not working.  Removed the SVC and hope to reinstall it…. and then, there, back to square one again, cannot install the SVC, just like the first time, see first post.

Factory reset the device, in the hopes that it will revert back to the previous firmware, so that I can still update it to the latest system update and then hope to be able to install SVC once again, just like the last time.

But after the factory reset, still cannot install SVC (but I can still install Alexa, and Alexa works fine). I tried to update the firmware, but it says that it already has the latest version. So doing the factory reset does not revert back the firmware(?). I confirmed it since the system version is indeed the latest version already. So there, no SVC yet again. Tried some minor network config tweaking (am using a Linksys Velop mesh router), but still no luck. Tried to use my ISP-provided router to set the device up and to add SVC. Still no luck.

Went to a friend’s house, that has a different ISP than mine, and a different router. This friend is just using his ISP provided router as well, not a mesh router. I setup the device using his network, did not anymore do a factory reset, just added his network to the device. And lo and behold, I was able to add SVC !!!

Am back to my own home network now, and is now using SVC. So far, it is still working, PLUS, setting timers via SVC is also now working! And was able to add my weather location finally, and asking SVC for weather updates is now finally working too! (I can now setup alarms that work via the App too, previously it does not work, I can add alarms in the App, but the alarms do not go off.)

Hopefully, this will last. I still have no idea if it is something in my router, or my ISP that is causing for the SVC installation to fail.  But if it fails again, will probably just head over to my friend’s house to re-add it.

(On a side note, not sure how SONOS does it, but home networks today is vastly different from home networks from 20+ years ago, when SONOS was founded. So, maintaining a system that should be able to adapt and cater to all or most home network configurations, plus still be able to work with their legacy devices, is one heck of a challenge, Their set of Beta testers must encompass most, if not all, home network situations and all SONOS devices. Just the same though, Amazon seems to be able to do it, I never had any major problems setting up Alexa devices, which was introduced in 2014, so we’ll see if 10 years from now, they will also have problems SONOS seems to be encountering currently, but I now digress.)
