Discovering top quality Dolby Atmos music

Hello,

I’m new here but not new to the Sonos ecocystem. Ever since i upgraded my system I’m on a Dolby Atmos music hunt, but it’s quite often buried in both Apple Music and Tidal. Even if you find it, not all Immersive Mixes are great. That’s why I build Hello Atmos - Dolby Atmos discovery website. You can filter by genre and Immersive mix engineer, with indication of Grammy awarded engineers. On top of that, community rankings of Albums and Tracks. If you’re looking for great Dolby Atmos mixes give it a try.

Cheers,

Adrian

Hi @Hello Atmos

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

I have on occasion seen people discussing where to find Atmos music, so I think some will find this very helpful - thanks for sharing! Good work!

I don't see Amazon Music there, is there a way to do them or would you consider adding them?

Yeah, I couldn’t add Amazon Music because the don’t expose API for music. But I’m monitoring their developer portal in case it changes.

That would be great, haven't found a good way to find Atmos on Amazon, the search in Sonos has improved to be somewhat useful but far from good. Looks to be an Amazon issue, not Sonos.

Actually Amazon Music Unlimited is easier when looking for Atmos.  At least they show Atmos in the description of the format under the album art thumbnail and when the album is opened all tracks have the format defined.  Apple shows nothing until you open the album.  With Apple you have to open the album or look at View Credits for each track to see if the track is Lossless or both Lossless & Atmos.  Even when you open an album and Apple defines it as Lossless there may be some Atmos tracks within that album.  Those can only be found using View Credits then scrolling down to see the format(s).

That is a great resource for Dolby Atmos discovery.  One thing missing though.  If you want to hear Dolby Atmos done correctly you need to listen to orchestral music done in Dolby Atmos.  Often times the more popular Atmos mixes can sound gimmicky.  This, of course, does not apply to all of them.  The orchestral Atmos mixes, for the most part, only make the room seem larger.  You almost feel like you’re in the large venue where the orchestra was recorded.

Yeah, it’s tricky to find good Atmos mixes. You can look at it from different angles. I’d say from my experience developing the app and looking at the mixes that get top positions in community rankings, they’re usually mixed either by reputable engineers (could be someone who won Grammy or is just good at immersive mixing) or by the artists themselves (usually the most creative). People hate the upmixed AI slop, that I can tell.

I'm not seeing that here when I search Amazon for Atmos.

You have to have Amazon Music Unlimited for Atmos to show.

I do have Amazon Unlimited, as you should be able to tell from the Dolby Atmos tag appearing in the second image.

@Mr. T

He’s talking about using the Amazon Music app to search for Atmos.

Are there any Atmos capable services that have a comprehensive way to search for Atmos albums / tracks?  I know Apple has a Spacial Audio section that you can look through, but nobody has a way to enter the key word “Atmos” as part of a search that will take you to an Atmos version of what your looking for.  I’m into classical orchestral.  There are download sites that show new releases of which a good percent are Atmos.  Also I can enter a composer name and Amazon Music Unlimited will show which albums are Atmos.  When using Apple Music in the same way I have to open each album to see if it’s Atmos & if it shows lossless there may still be some Atmos tracks in the album.  Not very user friendly.

No.  The Sonos app will not show you what is Atmos.
