Searching is the best way of finding specific information in the community. To learn how to find the content you are looking for, keep reading.
To use search, click the search box and simply start typing.
When you start typing you will see the drop-down results change with suggested topics depending on what you are searching for. In the below example I am searching for information about the placement of the Era 300s:

There will be different icons, to the left of each topic. This is what each icon means:
| | A circle with question mark, means it is an open question. |
| | The speech bubble, means it is a conversation topic |
| | Page with lines, means it is an article - these are informative posts that have been created by either users like yourself, or Sonos staff. |
| | At the bottom of the drop down menu you will see a pen, if you click or tap that, you will be sent to the start a topic page. |
| | Magnifying glass icon, is if you don’t see what you are looking for in the dynamic drop down menu. |
Click the 🔍 view all or hit enter and you will go to the community search page:

For the Phone/tablet view it will look like this, notice the filter has moved to the right side of the search bar:

Here you have some advanced search filtering options:
“Source” is the community.
“Topic type” is one of 3 types:
- Conversation if you want to find a conversation about a certain topic that does not necessarily have an answer.
- I have a question will be if you are searching for a topic with a specific answer, IE not looking for something up for a discussion. (Often used for support questions)
- Product updates, or as we call it: News and Announcements are articles created by Sonos staff, these will be updates like the announcement of a new product, a new software update, or some other relevant news.
We recommend that you do not filter on topic type on your first search.
“Community category” is to narrow down the location in the community of the content you are looking for. Want to know what each specific category is for? Have a look at our article for “Community overview” which will give you a good starting point.
“Tag” will narrow down which tags were added to the topic to make them easier to find. If you are looking for a specific product, selecting the tag for that product is a good start. Want more information on tags? Read our article covering “Creating your first topic”, which also describes tags.
Once you have used the filtering options you should have gotten closer to finding the topic or answer you are looking for. If you have not found what you are looking for, try mixing up the way you search, by using the specific product names, or other keywords important to your search. In the example above it was “placement” and “Era 300” as we were looking to find the best placement of an Era 300.
If there are no topics that answers your curiosity, then please go ahead and Create your own topic and someone in the community are likely to have the answer or are up for a great conversation about the topic.
Happy searching, and as always feel free to ask if you need help or can’t find the answer.
