Will HDMI ARC and optical audio out work at the same time?

I have my optical out hooked into my receiver with surround sound.

I have my Sonos Beam Hooked into my HDMI ARC.

But for some reason I am not getting any output on the Beam.

When I go to my Samsung TV under connected devises I can see the Beam as Connected.

So my question is will the TV send the audio signal to both the receiver and the Beam or just one or the other.

If it will send the audio signal to both, what am I doing wrong.

Which model TV?

I think this varies by make/model of TV, but in some cases you maybe able to tell from the sound-out options in the TV settings, as is will often show both the HDMI-Arc & Optical ports under the same entry for you to select.

See the attached screenshot example from an LG TV WebOS that shows them both as one selection for dual-audio out through both connections at the same time.

Hi @RandyO, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Generally most TVs will let you chose either Optical or HDMI ARC as an output and not both. The best way to check would be either: the TV settings, the TV Manual, or contacting Samsung directly and checking with them.

If you aren’t getting audio from the Beam, then it sounds like the TV is providing sound via Optical and not to the HDMI ARC as well.

I hope this helps!
