Question

What causes Sony TV audio source to not always be the external source of Arc Ultra upon turn-on?

System info:

  • Sony 77 A80J TV
  • Apple TV4K (connected to Sony TV via HDMI 4)
  • Sonos Arc Ultra (connected to Sony TV via HDMI 3 eArc)

Issue: Turn system on (usually via Apple remote) after everything being off overnight or some period of time and sometimes Sony TV immediately will be using the external audio which is the Sonos Arc Ultra and sometimes I’ll find the Sony TV will be using the internal TV speakers and I have to manually switch TV audio source to the external audio source (Sonos Arc Ultra).

Question: Anyone know what causes this erratic behavior and how to fix it so the audio is consistently external audio of the Arc Ultra?

Go to Settings > (Arc room name) and turn TV Autoplay to On.

I’d also double check the TV for updates, and apply them.

Thanks.

I confirmed the TV software is up to date

And, confirmed the TV Autoplay for Arc Ultra is set to “on” in the Sonos app but will try toggling it just in case it is “stuck”

Similar behaviour was reported a couple of months ago.

Which certainly implies a call to Sonos Support to discuss it might be in order.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system. Something we in the public don’t have.
