Trying to add Sonos Ray to system with Play 5 (Gen 1)

I am trying to add a Ray onto an existing system that has a combination of old and new Sonos products.

I have a Play 5 (Gen 1) and a Play 5 (Gen 2) and a Sonos One.  So far with my existing kit, I have been able to use the Sonos S1 app to control them all and it’s been fine.

Trying to add the new Ray onto the system and the Sonos S1 app says the Ray is not compatible and I have to use the new Sonos app… but if I use the new Sonos app, it says I won’t be able to use my existing Play 5 (Gen 1).

I don’t want to have to get rid of my Gen 1, nor do I want to do the Sonos upgrade.

How can I make the Ray work?

The Ray is only compatible with the S2 app. The Play:5 (Gen 1) is only compatible with the S1 app. So they cannot be used together in the same system.

Thanks for your reply.

Can I set up a “TV” system with just the Ray using the S2 app and continue to use all of my other products together using the S1 app? If so, do you know how?

I am happy to keep them separate but I don’t want to break apart my existing system.

Any ideas?

Yes! You can set up the Ray on a separate S2 system. Read about it here:
