My couches are either side of the tv, running perpendicular with the soundbar. I am wondering which era model would be more forgiving as I'll be putting them behind one of the couches? Other option i have is to move the couch all the way back to the window, about 15ft from the tv and place the surrounds behind me there.

Try different positions and trust your ears.
I'd try one behind each couch at the end away from the TV.
