Surround speakers work with music, not with TV

Hi. I have a Beam, Sub Mini and two Play1 for surround sound.  All speakers work with music and appear as one group. However during TV playback, the two Play1 speakers just have a light static noise. Sub is working, as is the Beam. TV playback is showing as 5.1 surround.

Any ideas? Thanks 👍

I’d try a reboot if all devices, at the least, the Skybox, the TV, and all Sonos, by unplugging all from power for at least two minutes.

Then I’d run another diagnostic, and call in.

You’ll probably want to edit your post to remove the diagnostic number, Sonos is sensitive about posting them, and they usually just look them up based on your account. Plus, support doesn’t read these forums, you’d be better off calling Sonos Support to discuss it.

Does this behavior occur on all programs, not just one? I’ve had the experience where a TV broadcaster was sending a stereo signal along a 5.1 broadcast, making the result almost unlistenable, I often see a talking head show use stereo only, where’s there nothing coming from the surrounds, but when watching a 5.1 movie, they come alive.

Thanks for the advice.  It happens on all feeds, but saying that, everything we have comes via the Sky box. In fact, even when paused, the static noise remains. It is very faint, but there is no other sound during playback.

Had the same problem. You need to make sure “ungroup on autoplay” on surround settings is disabled, as to is autoplay. Fixed it for me

I suspect this is not relevant to the original query, although you may have been misled by the terminology that the OP used.  If the Play:1s are set up as surrounds then the Beam, Sub Mini and surrounds will show as a single ROOM, not group.  The “Ungroup on Autoplay” setting has no effect on how the speakers within the surround setup operate; it ungroups the Sonos surround “room” from any rooms that are grouped to it, when you switch from music playback to TV sound.

Thank you, I realised “I had the wrong end of the stick”

I had problems with no sound from the era speakers, after disabling ungroup they started working, but it could well be something else I did. Thank you for the explanation
