Please see the images of our living room area, Era 300’s were placed on floor behind Sofa on floor stands, made room look untidy, cramped for space and cables etc

Previously had Play 1’s mounted in bookcase on virtually empty shelves thes were less intrusive and better for general music, was persuaded to upgrade to Era 300’s whilst great for Atmos and movies, placement in middle of room is not great for music. Have played around with having them slightly higher and wall mounted and generally happy with sound. Just need some advice on best position to mount as rear left is in a corner and rear right slightly more open location. Aware Trueplay will deal with most of issues. Should I mount at 2m above floor leaving only 40 cm from top of speaker to ceiling so will need to mount upside down. Should they be flat against wall or angled in at approx 45 degrees?

TV and Arc in process of being wall mounted, desk size reduced and Sofa moving back about 1/2M

System

Sub Gen 3

Arc Ultra

Era 300 pair

You will miss a good bit of the Atmos sound if the 300s are too close to the side walls.

Same on the distance to the ceiling, too close will disrupt Atmos.

Give the Sonos suggested spacing, in the user guide, another look.

Personally, I would have just replaced the Play:1s with Era 100s.

The placement guide doesnt take into account real world, My rear wall has floor to ceiling bookcase so I cannot get it away from corner or ceiling without floor mounting which I dislike. I am favouring putting back Play 1’s or downgrading to ERA 100’s back on bookcase

I am inclined to agree, I do not think the Era 300 offers that much, given 90 % of TV watching is not Dolby Atmos films, and in many cases only transmitted in Stereo

You could set the speaker stands to have the Era’s more at ear height.

I must say I do not watch much stereo TV myself. Most TV is 5.1 and most streaming are either 5.1 or Atmos.

Most streaming channels BBC1, BBC2 ITV, CH4 are generally 2.1 Stereo in UK ?

Ch5 and some BBC films get 5.1

Agreed. Majority of general TV viewing is in stereo, with only series or sports/movies in 5.1 or Atmos, depending on source ie. Sky or Virgin.

If you can’t move the 300s on stands away from the back wall you might just as well put them on wall mounts and free up the stands for some other use.  The 300s will not perform as well when too close to a wall.

I couldn't place my 300s where the spouse would accept them and they performed well, swapped for 100s and got decent sound, not as good as the 300s well placed but better than the 300s in acceptable locations.

The 300s are a stereo Pair in another room now and sound fantastic. Amazon's Atmos music is mostly excellent and a very nice improvement to stereo HD tracks.

I'd not go back to non-Atmos surrounds if the 100s are at all possible.

I recall a while back someone posted they’d used ceiling mounts and were pleased with the results. I’m not sure exactly where they’d be best located in the room though. (Other than on the ceiling, I’ll say before some wit suggests it 🤭.)

@David Weller

It’s probably too late since your Era 300’s are Black. However Ceilings mounts for the Era 300’s are an option.

If you had chosen White Era 300’s painting the ceiling mounts white would have also been an option. However the main hurdle is accessing power.
