Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Hisense Canvas 65 Frame TV during the Black Friday sales, it was a great deal! However, I’m now trying to figure out if it will work with my Sonos home theater setup to get Dolby Atmos sound streaming.

Here’s my setup:

  • Hisense Canvas 65 (being shipped)
  • Sonos Beam (Gen 2)
  • Era 100s (as surrounds)
  • Mini Sub

I don’t plan to connect any external devices (like a gaming console or Blu-ray player) to the TV or the sound bar, I stream content directly from the TV apps (Netflix, Apple TV, etc.)

When I checked the specs for my new TV,  it has two built-in speakers and it says the surround sound supported is DTS Virtual:X and not Dolby Atmos. If I conenct through eARC, will my sonos equipment enable Dolby Atmos content? I’m getting mixed answers online - some people talk about audio passthrough and connecting devices straigh to the sound bar, the Dolby Website says the eARC connection should do it - but does not say if the TV's surround compatibility matters, etc.

Can anyone clarify if my Sonos speakers will be able to stream Dolby Atmos content from this TV?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It’s a 2024 model TV so it should support Dolby Atmos audio on some of the TV’s native streaming apps but not all of them. Many of the streaming apps require the highest quality subscription tier for Dolby Atmos audio, so be sure to check on this before you test.

Thank you! Yes the TV is 2024 but my concern is that the specs say the surround compatibility is DTS virtual:X, with which the Sonos Beam is not compatible with.

i haven’t gotten the TV yet (and could cancel the shipment t if needed be still!) so I cannot show you the audio settings options, etc. ratings.com says the TV will pass through Dolby Atmos but it is unclear to me if this is from external devices plugged into the TV only or if it also applies to the native TV apps, allowing the receiver/soundbar to decode the best possible audio. Thoughts from experience with other TVs that were not compatible with Dolby Atmos but the soundbar was?

Hi @jmacedop

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

I have a new Hisense eARC TV and it passes through Atmos without issue - in fact, I just got it last night and watched Top Gun: Maverick in Atmos and it was great! It is not one of these Canvas models, however.

Like @GuitarSuperstar, I would assume that any eARC TV will passthrough Atmos, but cannot guarantee it. I recommend contacting Hisense for an answer (of course, you may already have the TV by now and already know the answer)

I hope this helps.
