I made a similar thread a while ago but that was only when selecting dolby atmos.on the PS5 where the dialoge volumes were not balanced. However in the game Metaphor on the PS5 it does not matter what sound profile I select on the console, dialoge volumes are randomly painfully loud. I think it’s when it comes from the side channels. The worst example is a common one. This is a turn based RPG, so the characters will talk in combat. For example if you heal all characters, they will say a sentence as a way of thanking, but since the heal goes from one to the next, the sound can switch channels mid way if the sentence is long enough. What this does is that it becomes really loud at the end of the sentence. This happens a lot once you get 4 party members, especially the last member who says long sentences. It’s really annoying and caused me to use the TV audio, it’s that bad. Another example is NPCs talking in tows, sometimes it’s just way too loud, I thought this was a flaw of the game but it’s the soundbar. With the TV audio the sound balancing is way better and the NPC dialoge is much more muted. Again, I think this is because the NPCs are at an angle to the protagonist, or it’s the Arc Ultra just over emphasising dialogs. I don’t know if I have a flawed unit, or is this a known issue and will it be fixed? Especially switching volumes mid sentence is really frustrating. I am only using the Arc Ultra, no sub or rear speakers.

Edit: I see Trueplay is on, I will try to disable it later.

Have you tried switching to different levels of "speech enhancement" using the app?

It is off, I haven’t tried turning it on. It says it should be off in games in the app. i don’t need clearer dialog, I don’t want it to ramp up in volume depending on the channel. I tried toggling loudness and that did nothing.

Well that rules out the easy option, you might want to call Support and submit your issue

I tested with putting speech enhancement on and it’s the same problem. Also tested with Trueplay off and it’s the same problem. Also found something out. When I put speech enhancement to max it is only when the voice is coming from the side channels that the audio is louder, while it is very muted from the center. That explains why the volume switches, the soundbar only recognizes the voices from the side as dialoges and makes it louder (even with speech enhancement off), while since the music also comes from the center, it does not. Very weird. When it’s off I don’t want the soundbar to make the audio much louder anyway, especially since it doesn’t work.

This happens even if I turn music off in the game settings, much louder speech from the side speakers than the center, and even more of a difference the more I turn speech enhancement on. The Arc Ultra does not understand that it is speech when it comes from the center channel in this game.

Yes, Borderlands 3 has issues when NPCs are talking to you via the Echo. They are very, very, very, soft spoken. Basically impossible to hear.

Some of the Bank NPCs in Elder Scrolls Online are jarringly loud, compared to regular game audio. Doing the dolemans/anchors, Molag Bal is very faint in voice presentation.

Adjusting voice volume in game not solve any the issues above. Using voice enhancement with Sonos makes the sound experience lessen across entire game which honestly defeats the purpose of having sound system for games or movies.
