just got off the phone with support, they had me to do what I had already done, the long & short, it looks like the join button no longer works….. anyone else experience this? any fixes?

Welcome to the Sonos Community!
It’s a broken button - the only possible fix would be to open the unit and replace the button. As this would mean you’d no longer have the option of returning the unit for a replacement (which I can see is already organised), it’s ill-advised.
Non-functional buttons are not unheard-of, but as you can see, we’ll replace the unit if it happens.
