I have an older plasma tv with no hdmi arc. I am using optical and was curious if there is any way around this?

If your TV has an HDMI port (it does not have to support ARC) you can purchase the Arcana by HDFury @ $249 (USD). Here’s the link that shows the connection process (Select “Getting Started” )

+24Optical can pass Dolby 5.1 if the TV will send it (and assuming the source device can send it). Check your TV specs.
