Ceiling Mounting ERA 300's

Just read a very helpful thread on ERA300’s ceiling mount Vs In ceiling …..

I have the same issue. Probably easier than the OP on that thread. We have a rectangular room. But with a large triangular corner in glass. Long story, looks nice etc but not ideal for placing speakers.

The front viewing wall is perfectly symetrical and has just been rewired so TV, sound bar and other components are perfectly centered as is the viewing settee. The viewing settee has a left hand and right hand 2 seater settee perpendicular to the main viewing settee.

So everything is front is peachy. But the rear means the ERA 300 RHS would be over the arm if wall mounted. Not ideal. The LHS one not a problem.

Can use floor stands but I’m thinking ceiling mounted on a Flexson and use SW in app to invert the sound? The flexson appears have a long reach such that it could be in a proper position in line with the Arc Ultra.

This is the Flexson ceiling mount in question. not the prettiest but maybe works.

Install is no problem. The room is hacked and channelled to bits so that RJ45, power and decent audio cable runs to each position …. center, LHS F, RHS F, High level LHS F, High Level RHS F, rear LHS and rear RHS. I can easily run feeds into the ceiling and the whole room will be replastered and decorated. So a full hand of options is open to use …. save the unbalnced wall mount.

Question is, which is the best ….. floor mount or can I get away without loss with ceiling mounts?

This is the Flexson …

This is the decent symetrical wall with TV central and all the connections 1st fixed …. Not pretty but ...

This is the problem wall ….. with a double glass door eating up 25% of the wall mounting….

Floor speakers could work. Seen some nice Oak ones but loose cables are a bit Meh and prone to hyperactive grandkids. Ceiling ones are zero problem to install but would it be as good?

Would appreciate any input whilst we are at the dusty, painful chop at phase of work.

….. and from another angle

This sort of floor stand looks nice (the cosmetic is also a part of this …. trying get the lot done in white and oak) but unsure if it’s good from an audio point of view …. not sure just sitting on a wood plinth is optimum?

Nice looking stands. I’d follow the height measurements as the Sonos Era 300’s shown in the link.

On another note I prefer the minimalist aspect of the Sonos stands. I have a set of Black and White and they (stands) disappear into the room aesthetics. 😊

Thanks for sharing that. They stand a little higher than I imagined at 957mm but not a problem. And they do look good in the white and at a lot lower price point. Must say it had escaped me that Sonos suplied these.

We have a load of white and oak in the room so either could work nicely.

FYI, regarding speaker wires (power cord)….they actually are embedded in a grove that runs the length of the support pole and exits at the base of the stand.

We are going to have to continue disagree on the power draw and cost of the respective Ethernet and audio components.

If anyone cares the information on Ethernet is available elsewhere, make sure to compare the older 10/100 Sonos uses, not the more expensive and higher power 1000 interface components.

My comments were never about power draw so we have nothing to disagree about on that front. You interjected power draw. 😊

I was merely commenting on things that might cause some to be upset as it relates to cost as pointed out in my last post.

As an aside… I remember when folks complained about having to purchase a Bridge and/or Boost. People just want things to work out of the box with minimum to no extra cost.

Understand your reticence, although I have varying degrees of agreement, based on what minute we’re talking in :)

The challenge I see is this is based on the fact that “Era 500” is community and media speculation. It isn’t clear to me if that refers to the name itself, or the entire device.

This is the first time I’ve seen FCC filings associated with the rumor, though. I suppose I should check my Play for a model number, but it is really difficult for me to buy in to a Five type speaker running on any battery. So there’s already a ‘ummm’ involved. I just don’t know.

I think I’ve been fairly clear over the years that I’d be a fan of separates across the front of a home theater, but that will require replacement of my two Arcs…we’ll have to see.

My guess is this is just clickbait for the website in general. It’s certainly garnished a few clicks from us ;)

Interjected? How odd, as it was in my first post on the 500 section of this topic

Going to a USB C input and deleting both the 3.5 mm and Ethernet options will save costs for Sonos, save power draw (a watt or two) for the Ethernet and maybe a few cents off the cost for the consumer.

Probably not the right place to post but the discussion did stray into my reasons for certain choices of product and positioning and decision to wait to buy, so in a way, it does no harm and is lossely relevant.

A lot on-line reliable media articles repeating Sonos CEO comments that September will be a significant product release month …. specifically mentioned in some articles are indeed Sonos Era 500 and Sonos Ace 2 … one such article ….

While an interesting article, posted three days ago,  I see no reference to either an Era 500 or, for that matter, an Ace Gen 2. Did I miss something?

Edit: Frankly, the journalism in whole is in question when the writer makes the statement : facing criticism for dropping support for a number of legacy devices.  To my knowledge, the only devices Sonos no longer supports is the two remotes (the CRx00s) and the 30 pin Apple access dock. They still support all sound devices since their first speakers, by using S1.

No not in that particular one, but others do as we referenced in earlier posts. And it’s across board … What Hi-fi and other mainstream publications also make the same statements. Not specifically about Era 500 or Ace 2 but the timing and reason for annoucement.

I’m not greatly concerned in the journalists personal opinions … there is always an angle, prejudice or preference, they do it to provoke response I’d say …. but purely the fact that they all agree (based on Sonos own comments) that September will be annoncement month. And of course (for me at least) that’s exciting …. especially if it addresses my own current needs. Who knows? But we will find out shortly.

Users wishing for a pony does not often result in the users getting a pony.

Note my lack of an Era-500 and a pony, both frequently requested.

"Journalists" trolling for clicks aren't graded or paid based on accuracy but on the clicks they harvest.

Nevertheless, I can wait 4 weeks to wait and see if a pony shaped set of Era 500’s arrives at the end of the rainbow. 😁

And if it doesn’t then I can buy a pair (maybe two) of Era 300’s, the two subs and the Arc Ultra and be happy that I didn’t miss anything. Strangely I just got word that the LG W6 is about to land the next three weeks so it’s near perfect in a way.

Era-300 Pairs are awesome, I have two Rooms with them, one alone and one with a Sub 4. You really notice when a track is stereo or Atmos. For music I'm liking them better than my HT Room's setup. You won't regret that option.

Both sound great but trying to put a Sub in the kitchen for the second Pair resulted in some spousal input.

In the past, new hardware is almost always preceded by a flurry of FCC submissions, which are posted as speculation by various websites .  I’ve not seen any of those, and I would most definitely expect them to be out there if Sonos has a hardware release slated for next month.  The last definite FCC filing for a new Smart Speaker listed here is the Play, filed in 12/2025, but released back in March:

https://fcc.report/company/Sonos-Inc

I could be wrong, but . . .
