Some troubleshooting help for those experiencing the popping/static/distortion sound after upgrading to tvOS17 with Apple TV 4K and Sonos Arc…

I was experiencing this crackle/distortion from the Arc after a few minutes of use and most noticeably when I would start the Apple TV VPN service (I tried 2 different VPN Apps, same impact).

 

Resolution:

  • changing the Apple TV Video to 4K HDR (HDR10+) 60 Hz (from the 50Hz option) seems to have solved the issue after restarting the Apple TV and the Arc

 

Trouble Steps taken (no resolution):

  • Update Sonos S2 App, then update the Sonos speakers after (no resolution)
  • Testing for 2.4Ghz interference, fixed wifi to channel 1 (from 6) and SonosNet Channel (in app) to 11 (from 6) (no resolution)
  • trying different VPN (no resolution)

Equipment:

  • Apple TV 4K tvOS 17 (ethernet connected)
  • Arc (ethernet conencted), ERA100 (x2), Sub (G3)
  • Samsung “55 120Hz capable with One Connect box 
  • HDMI 2.2 cables
  • Xbox Series X
