Hi everyone. Just a quick question. I watch streaming channels Netflix, Disney, etc through a 4k Apple tv connected to my Sonos system, arc, 2 era 300's, sub mini. When I am not listening to Dolby Atmos it normally shows on the sonos app as pcm multichannel 5.1, I have found setting  it to Dolby digital 5.1 on the Apple box sounds louder & clearer but they recommend the other. Would be very interested in your thoughts & help. Many thanks.

With tvOS 26.4, you will likely find the audio sounds better when enabling Continuous Audio Connection for the HDMI Output in the Apple TV’s settings. This way you don’t have to manually switch between Atmos and 5.1 depending on what content you are watching.

Hi Mr T. Many thanks for your response. I agree but just find it  strange that it is louder & clearer Dolby digital 5.1. No big deal at all just wondered if anyone else had the same? Thanks again

Yes, it has been reported by many for years. That is one of the reasons why Apple have introduced this option.

Hi there. Got the latest 26.4 IOS update two days ago. Having a few problems with my Apple tv4k since the update. Dolby Atmos isn't showing in the top corner of my LG TV but it says Dolby Atmos on my Sonos app. I switch the programme off go back & it seems to work fine. This is only on Apple tv as my webos has no problems. Anyone else experiencing this?

Just answering my question. It is the Continous audio selection button that Apple have just introduced. If you have it on everything on the Sonos app comes through as Atmos even 5.1 etc (which is wrong) turn it off & everything is good, strange but true. Hope Apple will fix this very soon & certainly not the fault of Sonos

The new Continuous Audio setting was on by default. I turned it off. With it on, all audio is sent in Dolby MAT (which Sonos displays as Atmos, even when it’s not Atmos). According to Apple, it is populating the correct channels within the Dolby MAT for the content being played (the remaining channels being silent). It just doesn’t sound right to me.

If you have an amp that does surround processing on stereo 2 channel audio, that will no longer work with the Continuous Audio set on.

Note that signals are a type read by Sonos. Just because an audio signal is sent as ‘Atmos’ doesn’t mean that it contains the same signal usage as a ‘normal’ Atmos signal. While the carrier can be ‘Atmos’, it can be anything from mono on up. I think the Apple misstep is an effort to correct this, just not ultimately correct for many users...but certainly works for the average user.

When I lived in Texas, the local station carried the stereo signal for the pre-season Cowboy’s games as a Dolby Digital (5.1) signal. Made it virtually impossible to listen to, and certainly messed up my normal 5.1 enjoyment. Initially I thought it was an issue with Sonos, Took about 10 minutes of investigation to figure out the station was sending stereo across all 5.1 channels. I learned to never assume that what the carrier signal is was what the actual show was in.
