Hey everyone,

I'm trying to decide between two sound systems for my living room, and I could use some advice!

  1. Sonos Arc + Sub Gen3 (second hand, the combo around 1000€)
  2. Yamaha TrueX 50 soundbar (with subwoofer) + two TrueX speakers, new for 930€ (with 25% cashback = I'll have >200€ for future Yamaha purchases)

A bit about me:

  • I love watching movies and care a lot about good audio quality, surround sound, and Dolby Atmos.
  • I’m not a hardcore gamer, but a console might be add in the future.
  • Design is important, and I’ve excluded Samsung, LG, and Sony soundbars because I don't like their aesthetics.
  • I don’t own any other Sonos devices at the moment.
  • I’m also not great at comparing the hardware specs between the two setups, so any insights on that would be super helpful.
  • This setup might also become my main audio system for music and podcasts.

The Yamaha set has 2 satellite, and I’m aware that adding two Sonos Era 300s would be a great addition on Sonos, but they’re out of budget right now (maybe in the future, if I can find them second hand).

Which one do you think would be a better choice in terms of audio quality, surround performance, and overall value for money? Does anyone have experience with both setups? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance!

Being a Sonos junkie at this point, I would encourage you to go with Sonos. You can go with the Arc and Sub, but also consider the Era 100s or a pair of Ones for surrounds if the budget is not there for the Era 300 right now. I have the 100s and love them!

Because you will be using the system for TV viewing most of the time, you will not be using the app for this. It will be used for music services, but if you do not have any other speakers, you don't have any speakers to group.

Then you can upgrade to the 300s at a later date then place the surrounds in different rooms.

It’s risky buying a used Sonos set up ATM. You could have major issues with the app. IMO not worth the risk

@Pools-3015 thank you! and for the music streaming can I just use AirPlay to select the Arc+Sub as the music output, can’t I? Or do I have to go through the Sonos app?

Btw do you think that the Sonos is much better than the TrueX?

@BMZ Thanks for the feedback, but can I ask you why? This is just a SW issue, nothing to do with second hand HW, right?

I know the app has had big problems lately (but they're being fixed from what I've read), and also since this is connected to the TV, I can just use the TV to control the Arc+Sub, right?
And for the music, as for my previous comment here, I could use AirPlay I guess. Am I missing something?
