I tried out a few discs and noticed that I cannot get many of them to play surround sound. Instead it outputs as PCM. I have changed all of the settings on the player and the TV without any luck. I am able to get Dolby Digital.
I did a fair number of searches and found that this is a known challenge with this configuration.
My questions:
Will I have better luck with the Arc arrives and I switch to eARC? Will it be able to handle more of the DTS tracks that many of my discs have?
If not, what would be a recommended player to get instead? I can still return this one.
If there isn’t a solution for getting surround sound, are there any ways to at least get faux surround sound?
Will fake surround sound improve with the Arc compared to the Playbar?

The Blu-ray player is fine, but unfortunately the LG C1 doesn’t support DTS audio pass through, so you won’t be able to get DTS Digital Surround audio from any DTS-encoded discs. All of your DTS discs will play in stereo PCM. But you should be able to get Dolby Digital 5.1 audio from Dolby-encoded discs. Make sure the Blu-ray player’s Digital Audio Out setting is set to Auto and set BD Secondary Audio to Off. Go ahead and set Audio DRC to Off too.
When you get the Arc, you will have more audio options, but you still cannot get DTS audio because of your TV. The good news is the Arc supports LPCM audio, so you will be able to get multichannel PCM audio from your DTS-encoded discs by setting Digital Audio Out on the Blu-ray player to PCM. Multichannel PCM sounds just as good as DTS. And you will be able to get Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos audio from Dolby-encoded discs.

When you are playing Dolby discs, keep the setting on Auto. When you are playing DTS discs, change the setting to PCM. Set BD Secondary Audio to Off and Audio DRC to Off regardless of the disc.
I did get the Arc yesterday and tried it out. When I play our Gravity BluRay that has DTS Sonos reports it as stereo PCM. Should it say something else?
I have tried Digital Audio = PCM and BD Secondary Audio both on and off. All combinations show Stereo.
I do have the Arc connected to the eARC port in the TV and can get surround sound via apps. I can also get surround sound with Dolby tracks.
Is there something else I need to do?

Digital Sound Out: Pass Through
eARC: On
Auto Device Detection: On
Simplink (CEC): On
Auto Power Sync: Off
Keep Digital Audio Output on the Blu-ray player set to PCM and BD Secondary Audio to Off.

I just solved it. I did not realize that there is a separate eARC button that I did not click on. Once I did this by audio switch to 7.1. Sounds great!!
