Sonos Playbase

Why Sonos discontinued the PlayBase?

I think the PlayBase was and still is one of the best design from Sonos, the form factor of the design was great to blend in with your home furniture and also easy to hide.

The sound of the PlayBase is amazing and the bass that is coming out of that flat block plate is great  much more that I was expecting the first time I heard it, I actually was impressed.

For me the design still one of the best, because it doesn’t look like a bar in front of your TV. I just don’t understand why Sonos just continue with the design and improving his capabilities with Dolby Atmos technology and so on.

I hope Sonos use this design again in the future with improvements for Dolby Atmos and HiRes for music.

Given the form factor the Playbase was never going to get Atmos, without a massive re-design.  I’m also guessing it did not sell in sufficient numbers for Sonos to continue with it and develop it further.

I have a Playbase and it is superb.  No need for a sub in the set up i have.  I did try the Beam as a replacement, and to be able to remove an Alexa device, but was disappointed by the sound and the voice delay on my Samsung TV.  This is an issue on the Playbase but I resolved with an optical switch.  So the Beam was returned and i still enjoy the Playbase.

I had read so many issues with PlayBase, I haven’t experienced any problem with the device at all.
I am also really happy with my PlayBase no thinking to replace it at all at this moment.

And if is true what I read the other day about Dolby technology, that you may get Dolby Atmos through stereo speakers like you do with earphones there is not need to replace your devices that you already own 😁

I agree - the Playbase form factor for me is a winner. But I have added the sub to my setup and it does improve on what the Playbase cando.

I’m sure it would, but my room is too small and I tried my sub but it was too overpowering.  In a decent sized room it would be a perfect set up.

+1 for the Playbase. Won’t be in a hurry to get the Arc but one day I’ll think about it.
