I have used the Amp connected to a TV via HDMI to act as the front of a surround system, left, right and phantom center channel, sub out and support Sonos speakers as rear surrounds.

With the Amp set up in this configuration, running a powered sub from the sub out port, is that sub receiving the actual decoded subwoofer channel from Dolby, basically the .1 of 5.1 or does the Amp just use its crossover to feed low frequency from the left and right channels to the sub out port as it would in a stereo set up?

Likewise, is the phantom center channel derived/created from the decoded center channel of Dolby 5.1 or is it purely simulated from the left and right channels?

In that setup, assuming the Amp is receiving a Dolby Digital signal, the subwoofer is receiving the correct LFE channel (the .1 you speak of).

Similarly, the ‘faux’ center channel is created from, well, the center channel, and is not just an interpolation of the right and left channels.
