Sonor Arc Ultra takes 2 minutes to output TV audio (LG G4)

Hi all,

Wondering if someone can help with this.  I’ve a Sonos Arc Ultra connected to LG G4 OLED TV via HDMI ARC.  The sound takes (consistently) 2 minutes to output from the Ultra after turning on the TV.

  • Both the Arc Ultra and LG G4 are running the latest software.
  • Sound > Advanced > Digital Sound Out HDMI Audio set to “Passthrough”
  • Sound > Advanced > “ERC support” set to “enabled”
  • Sound > Advanced > HDMI ARC device Delay set to 0 (though setting to “bypass” does not have an effect).
  • SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) is enabled (required for volume control through TV remove)
  • Behaviour is occurring irrespective of the content e.g. Streaming Apps vs. analogue TV vs. from other HDMI sources (PS5 and Sky).
  • After x2 minutes everything is fine, Sonos App shows the connection at this point.

I’ve tried A/B testing with most of the above settings, and even deleted the HDMI profile on the TV and restarted with no luck.

Appreciate this maybe an LG issue (“HDMI handshake or similar”), however I’d upgraded from a Sonos Beam (Gen 1) and didn’t have this problem.  For me it’s an annoyance however I’m getting it worse from the wife and x2 small children...being less bothered about the sonic upgrade it’s more of a downgrade for them!

Any help/advice would be really appreciated.

Edit above, the software update didn't work in the end. What did work was purchasing an HDMI CEC blocker and attaching to the HDMI running to the steam deck dock.

Try this:

Disconnect everything from the TV and unplug the Arc Ultra and TV from power for a couple of minutes. Plug everything back in but keep everything disconnected. Make sure Simplink is enabled in the TV settings. Run TV Setup in the Sonos app and follow the app instructions. When the app instructs you, connect the Arc Ultra to the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port using the Sonos-supplied HDMI cable. After the Arc Ultra has been successfully connected, test the audio. If it works, connect the PS5 and test again. Then connect the Sky box and test again.

Thanks @GuitarSuperstar!

Went through the steps and audio working until I plugged in a JSEUX Steam Deck docking station (forgot to mention above) which seems to be the culprit i.e. whenever this is plugged into HDMI 3 the above issue persists again.

At least I have a workaround now (leave the dock unplugged) and something to work on resolving.  Lots of forums mentioning this issue, something related to the dock breaking CEC and ARC.

Thanks again.

In case helpful to anyone - I updated the firmware on the JSAUX steam deck docking station and now everything is working correctly.
