I’m trying to get DTS-HD MA streams transcoded to LPCM for my Sonos ARC but all I get are DD or DD+ transcodes which are lossy codecs, unlike the original MA streams. Also, DTS encoded movies with 7.1 channels get bumped down to 5.1, again in DD or DD+.

Any way to troubleshoot this? I think PMS and the different players can both transcode and with PMS you can hardcode an XML profile to force it to transcode stuff in LPCM properly right?

I got a TCL 635 Roku TV, Shield Pro 2019, and ATV4K. Sonos Arc too.

I use Infuse PRO (has to be the Pro-Version for the HD Sound Formats) on my Apple TV for this task.

Infuse connects to the Plex Media Server and is able to send Multichannel PCM even on DTS-Codecs.

I tried but got DD 5.1, I could not find a setting in Infuse Pro for transcoding audio to LPCM.

OK, the first thing to check would be the audio settings on Apple TV. If you have the audio setting turned on that changes the audio to Dolby Digital 5.1, then the Apple TV always outputs Dolby Digital 5.1

So you want to have the “change format” setting “off”. This way the Apple TV sends multichannel PCM up to 7.1.

Second, it is important that the TV is able to pass through this multichannel signal to the Sonos ARC via its eARC HDMI port (eARC and sound passthrough might have to be enabled on the TV).

My TvOS setting is Off - Atmos Capable for Change Audio. TCL 635 TV is set to passthrough over eARC.

What is your setup, TV and AVR wise.

LG OLED CX with Sonos ARC.

Oh, that’s a better TV. Must be some buggy firmware on the Roku TCL 635 that makes DD take precedence over LPCM. It is a common TV so a fix should come eventually.
