I have all the settings correct on tv and xbox and have done trueplay. The sound is awful it does not play half the sounds at an audible level when playing games and has no directional audio even in stereo. In Atmos you need to turn it to 60+% to hear ambient noises under that its like having ear plugs in. Yet i can watch the same game being played in YouTube and it has full surround sound and you can hear sounds that you can't hear playing games directly. Feel like i wasted £400 for a mono speaker

What model TV do you have?

Make sure the TV is set to these settings:
HDMI Input Audio Format: Bitstream
Digital Sound Output: Pass Through
eARC Support: On
Set the Xbox to these settings:
HDMI Audio: 5.1 uncompressed (for non-Dolby Atmos content and gaming)
HDMI Audio: Dolby Atmos for home theater (for all Dolby Atmos content)
Enable Allow passthrough
It is set to that. I feel gas lighted as hell like games sound perfect if someone else is playing em on a youtube video but when playing on my own xbox it is flat half the sounds are in audible. Like any open world game i play you can’t hear the weather effects birds chirping etc unless you turn it to 60 70% and then dialog and non ambient sound is extremely loud. And there is no directional sound even just left and right. I thought trueplay would fix it but nope. I am so lost.
That is strange as most YouTube videos are only in stereo. Could it be that you prefer stereo audio over 5.1 or Dolby Atmos audio?
5.1 is the same sorry. Sounds great on youtube twitch any stream app but actual video games all the options sound bad and don’t even do simulated surround sound. But again put the same game on youtube like battlefield 5 for example i could hear footsteps of enemies and what direction it was from. When i play it myself no footsteps are audible and no directional sounds tried dolby digital and 5.1 the subtle sounds are all extremely quiet. All games are the same. If i use my tv speakers atmos does great virtual surround but it has no bass and sound quality overall is a bit shallow. I am so baffled how a game sounds great on youtube but sounds worse than my tv speakers directly from source.

Maybe i am explaining badly no matter the setting things in games like the ambient noises like wind the rain if you in a town the sounds of the crowds the traffic etc very low volume. Also noises in the distance you just can’t hear at all. Tested it all on my tv speakers and another tv. Its like the beam thinks it is set up with the other speakers i have never owned or set up.

Also watching youtube with it set to Atmos home theatre and it is clearly doing virtualised surround sound even it being stereo. But not when playing any games.
