I noticed that sometimes the content key changes the volume by 1 and other times it changes the volume by 4. Why does it do this?

Sorry to hear of this issue you are having with your Ace headphones changing volume by different amounts when you use their button control.
I would likely put this down to the device they are connecting to, and perhaps the connection method - it is entirely possible that you will see different volume jumps when connected via Bluetooth, for example, as compared with a cable connection.
