Headphones Disconnect From Sonos System After Switching Audio Sources

I’m having an issue with my headphones when using them with my Sonos setup. The headphones initially connect and play audio normally, but after switching between different audio sources, the headphone connection sometimes drops and the audio stops. Reconnecting the headphones usually brings the audio back, but the problem can happen again after another source change.

A few things I’ve noticed:

  • Headphones work normally when first connected.
  • The problem appears after changing the audio source.
  • Audio may stop even though the Sonos system still appears connected.
  • Reconnecting the headphones usually restores playback.
  • The issue is intermittent rather than happening every time.
  • Other Sonos playback continues normally when the headphones disconnect.

I’ve tried restarting the headphones and reconnecting them, but I’m still seeing the same behavior occasionally. Has anyone experienced headphones disconnecting or losing audio specifically after switching sources on Sonos? I’d like to know whether there is a recommended setting or troubleshooting step that could prevent the connection from dropping.

What headphones? How are they connected? Sonos Ace? The Sonos Ace headphones don’t play sonos audio. They are Bluetooth, USB-C line-in or TV Audio Swap with a supported Sonos soundbar. They don’t play Sonos audio, except TV audio when using the TV swap feature.

You’ll need to describe your setup and how you are using the headphones in more detail.

Thanks for pointing that out. You’re right that I need to be more specific about the setup. I’m referring to the Sonos Ace headphones, and I’m using them with a supported Sonos soundbar through the TV Audio Swap feature. The headphones work normally when I first connect them and I can hear the TV audio through the Ace, but the issue can appear after I switch between different audio sources or change what the soundbar is playing. The soundbar itself continues working normally, while the Ace can stop receiving audio until I reconnect or trigger the connection again.

Does the TV Audio Swap connection normally remain active when the soundbar’s audio source is changed, or is there a particular sequence for switching sources that could cause the Ace to drop the audio connection? I’m trying to determine whether what I’m seeing is expected behavior during source changes or an actual connection problem with the Ace.

Thanks for the additional info That helps a lot.

What you are seeing is normal. The tv swap connection with the Ace is dropped and sound goes back to the soundbar if you play something other than TV audio on the soundbar. TV Audio Swap only works with TV audio. Once the soundbar is playing TV audio again, you will need to initiate TV Audio Swap again to hear it in the Ace headphones.

@glenset22

I thought this might be of interest, in case you didn’t see them. I’m looking forward to getting mine. TV Audio Swap still works the same, but other linking possibilities...
