Google Assistant completely fails to install on all Sonos speakers

After the recent Sonos system update all voice enabled devices have failed to install or load Google Assistant.  Sonos support is blaming Google due to Gemini and Google is blaming Sonos for a very poor app link integration. Shockingly Amazon Alexa and Sonos Voice work fine but for users who have all of their home automation on Google Assistant/Google Home they are screwed again. Please resolve this issue!

Hi @dckope,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble adding Google Assistant to your system.

We’re currently aware of an issue where Google Assistant is unable to be added to systems when using Android controllers. We’re working towards a fix for this but have no ETA to share on when this will be resolved. The workaround we’d suggest would be to use an iOS device to add Google Assistant.

Other users have also suggested using a device that doesn’t have Gemini but does have Google Assistant, however the success with this method isn’t guaranteed on Android devices.

I’ve tagged this thread with the issue, so if I hear any further information, I’ll update you here, otherwise I’d suggest keeping your system up to date on the latest firmware.

I hope this information helps.

I might not completely understand what you are saying, but why don’t you ad Spotify to the Google Home app?

Well, I did try several things. In the end, I cleaned up a few things and started allover again.

  • I have (re-)added the Spotify service in the Sonos app
  • I have made Spotify my default music service in the Sonos app
  • I have (re-)added the Spotify service in the Google Home app
  • I have made Spotify my default music service in the Google Home app
  • I added the Google Assistant in the Sonos app (which took some efforts)
  • I added the Sonons integration in the Google Home app

Still it does not work.

  • “Hey Google, turn the volume up/down” does work, the volume is adjusted
  • “Hey Google, play song x with Spotify": can not be done on this device
  • "Hey Google, how long does it take to work": personal content had to be turned on

Those three things did work, but I accidentally removed the Google Assistant in the Sonos app and now i am not able to get it working again… :-(

In my view, Google and Sonos services haven't worked together since they fell out over speaker technology.

I can confirm that this is still an issue. After removing Google Assistant from Sonos and then trying to re-add it as recommended by Sonos Support to fix the latest connection issue, the Android app went into a loop claiming it was unable to establish a connection. I had to try the workaround of installing the Sonos app and Google Assistant on an iOS device and re-adding Google as a voice assistant there. That worked.
