Google Assistant completely fails to install on all Sonos speakers

After the recent Sonos system update all voice enabled devices have failed to install or load Google Assistant.  Sonos support is blaming Google due to Gemini and Google is blaming Sonos for a very poor app link integration. Shockingly Amazon Alexa and Sonos Voice work fine but for users who have all of their home automation on Google Assistant/Google Home they are screwed again. Please resolve this issue!

Hi @dckope

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble adding Google Assistant to your system.

We’re currently aware of an issue where Google Assistant is unable to be added to systems when using Android controllers. We’re working towards a fix for this but have no ETA to share on when this will be resolved. The workaround we’d suggest would be to use an iOS device to add Google Assistant.

Other users have also suggested using a device that doesn’t have Gemini but does have Google Assistant, however the success with this method isn’t guaranteed on Android devices.

I’ve tagged this thread with the issue, so if I hear any further information, I’ll update you here, otherwise I’d suggest keeping your system up to date on the latest firmware.

I hope this information helps.

Jamie, Thank you for the answer. I’ve temporarily moved to Amazon Alexa until this issue is resolved and will still use Google Assistant for all of my other non Sonos devices. Knowing that the Sonsos build pipeline is probably full of many issues that need resolved I hope the Sonos product team can understand the importance of this integration and prioritize the fix as soon as possible. Please do provide updates when available. I’d appreciate a release timeline if possible as it will help me in making a decision to stay with the numerous Sonos products I have or I should seek to find a different solution and leave the Sonos platform.

I am having the same problem.... Have a Beam gen1 with two Sonos Ones as surround speakers. Google Assistant has worked for a long time but with a stupid action from me myself I have removed GA from the Beam and I am not able anymore to add it again…

I have no iPhone and an older Android device without Gemini was not working for me.

So yes, I would also like to have a solution for this and I hope Sonos does find it soon!

Glad i discovered this thread - have literally wasted hours trying to get Google Assistant to work on my Sonos Beam and no matter what combination of instructions from Sonos Support I follow, the adding voice control will not work.

The only conceivable workaround left is to use Alexa, but I can’t add YouTube Music to Alexa, so I’m left not being able to use my main music service on my speakers.

Not sure if there’s anything left to try beyond moving ecosystems - either away from YouTube music, or away from Sonos.

The only thing I can think left is to buy a new Sonos speaker with bluetooth support (because of course the Beam and Arc don’t have that…..) and just manually connect to the speakers when i want to use YouTube music. But I’m pretty loathed to invest further into Sonos at this point….

I was now able to re-install it with an iPhone. It is working again..... Except I cannot grant permission for personal content (like travel time to work) which was working before I removed it...

I’ve been struggling with this too. I couldn’t add voice assistant with my android but was able to with my work iphone. Download google assistant and sonos app on iphone and it will work. Probably has something to do with the switch from Google Assistant to Gemini and the ongoing lawsuits between Sonos and Google.

Has anyone been able to figure out how to allow personal results through voice match..?

Hello all

I recently bought a Beam gen 2 and thought i’d get google assistant on it using my android 13 based phone.

Having major issues getting it to work, hitting a screen where the address could not be found, i started playing with another integration in my homesystem called homebridge.

At this point i tried to reconnect my homebridge with google home having problems there too with the 0auth address.

What i did was when i got the failure to find the address screen, i hit the three bars and opened the address in a real browser, in my case firefox. It showed the same screen with the error so i reloaded the page, and lo and behold, it worked.

I tried the same thing when getting the error in the sonos app adding google assistant, and it worked there too.

Try that, i’d love to hear if this works for anyone else.

Patrik

I would love to try that, but did not completely inderstand what you did.
Which failure do you talking about? I get a message when I give a voice command dor several commands. Then the Sopos replies with the message that I need to grant access….

My failure was when i was trying to add Google Assistant to my speaker in the app

The error presented itself as an error page 404 failing to reach an address when I was trying to authenticate myself.

Opening that address in Firefox an reloading the page did the authorization and it went back to the Sonos app and Google assistant was added successfully.

I can try redo it in a few hours when I get home from work.

Ah okay!
I have added it with the iPhone of my neighbour.

Did you also have some voice commands not working, because you have to authorize custom content?

I haven't used it that much yet. I just got it working before bedtime yesterday and basically only tried turning on and off  some lights.

Which commands doesn't work for you so I can try them?

One command I get the "custom content” message is wen asking how much time the journey to work will take. I think, the same message will appear if I ask the weather at :home", but I am not sure of that.

And if I ask to play some music on Spotify, I get the answer that that is not possible on this device…. strange thing, it worked in the past, but I accidentaly removed the Google Assitant from the Sonos and after re-adding it, I have these problems….

You are correct. Asking it to play something on spotify it says it’s not available on this device.

Asking it to tell me how long it will take to drive to work it says i need to allow for personal data on google assistant settings, but the beam is not found in my assistant settings so i can’t add it.

So unfortunately it is not completely working for you either.... :-(

Did you (re-)ad Spotify in Google Assistant?

In Google assistant or in the Sonos app?
