  • First, since the dramatic app update, sonos managed to change the great music experience in to instand enormaus irritation. Over the past 7 months I tried many things to get things working again. No success. Reached out to support, kind person, no success. Man what a giant sh*t show.

Devices not responding, delays 10 second +, parts of a group responding and so on… I will defnetly will NOT use sonos during parties these days, while it was great fun before.

Weird thing is, Home Assistant components easily can control the speakers and the speacers respond.

Sonos wasted the experience completely. Fingers crossed the 5.1 setup at my TV keeps working. (I will not be supprised if Sonos is capable of breaking that as well)

No sonos for me in the future. Currently the stuff is worthless on he 2ndhand market….

The useless update and the sonos management additude is a large midle finger to the loyal customers.

My setup (as long as I have not been able to sell it):
    playbar, Sub, 2x play 1
    ikea thing
    Sonos One
    Play 1

UK 20:00 - New firmware @ 82.2.59204 (no release notes as yet) and new app release @ 80.14.06 (release notes but not on UK app store yet)...

Firmware installed OK - two attempts on my Play:1 stereo pair but OK. Initial checks and no change for the worse, all remains the same and stable - so far...

🤞for the app becoming available and with it and album art!

So, an update is released 4 weeks after the last one on IOS.  What’s changed for me?  Nothing!

Still can’t save a playlist / Queue

Still can’t get back to a playlist / Queue after playing a radio station or listening to TV

Still can’t delete an existing alarm

All these simple functions are available from the Windows PC App, and the first two items can easily be done from the Sonophone IOS App.

Adding a 2nd / 3rd speaker to a group takes 20-30 seconds before the music starts to come through.  Using PC or Sonofone the delay is 1 or 2 seconds.

Another note today from Nick Millington about the latest release focusing on system setup - but nothing about re-instating the functionality above.  How long will it take to restore these basis functions?

New app 80.14.07-.  Well at least you can have really long queues.  Got one that’s 47,628 tracks long.  Of course that’s only because the playlist I put in the queue loaded 126 times.  What!!!!

UPDATE - Tale of 2 Sonos households.

Well it’s been months since I last posted here and NOTHING good has happened/changed!

Household 1: Still using V2 16.1 with NO issues, just like prior to May 2024 (when Sonos dumped this steaming hot mess on its most loyal customers/resellers/installers). They were wise (from past app=launch screw-ups) to stop all soft & firmware updates.

This household recently observed the big discounts Sonos is currently shilling along but had months ago shredded their Sonos product upgrade wish-list b/c they saw that the company leadership was neither honest nor at all concerned about its customer base.

Household 2: Accidentally updated in June has tried over and over to get the long set of “downgrades” to work to no avail.  They now use Sonopad and Sonophone + the PC/browser app - which is LAME!

They will NEVER EVER purchase/suggest/talk-up Sonos products to anyone ever again!

Just my humble opinion that these 2 households represent a very large percentage of all of Sonos’ once loyal customers (and best word-of-mouth promoters of these once great products).

And yet the complicit c-suite and board still survive (still with sup-par - stock vaulements and quarterly performance).  How is this possible???

Performed IOS app update yesterday and except for the Now Playing window being smaller and more rounded at the corners (like the windows in Windows 11), I could not find any improvements. Still no Save button, and when you change windows by clicking on the Playlist icon, the app still looses your place in the playlist and takes you all the way back to the top of your playlist. And I also noticed and performed a firmware update. Again, undocumented and no noticeable changes.

I have to correct myself; there is documentation in the release notes, which was dated yesterday, but it’s more for Android users.

John:

Do you have a Music Library indexed into Sonos?  If so do you have any M3U playlists in that library that contain over 300 tracks?

No I don’t think so. All of my music is either from my CD collection or purchased using iTunes over the years. I believe I purchased a couple of songs from Amazon and my Son sent me two or three songs from Tidal. So I think my music collection stored on my NAS drive is about 1,500 songs or tracks. And when I did the update today, I performed an index, which took about five minutes.

Thanks

The reason I asked was I’m having an issue with my library playlists.  When I put one into the queue it loads it several times.  So, for instance, my Cello Concertos playlist which contains 378 tracks ends up in the queue with 47,628 tracks.  That means it loaded into the queue 126 times.

This does not seem to be an issue with playlists from services.  At least not so far.

I saw your post earlier today, but didn’t realize it was from you. Sorry. I removed my Sonos Playlists from various rooms and re enter them without any issues or duplicates. It’s funny, when I read your comment I actually had Yo-Yo Ma playing The Swan, which was written for the Cello, on a continuous loop. But no, I can’t replicate your experience. I tried both on one of my iPads and then on my Windows Controller, and I’m running the latest Sonos updates.

John:

My Sonos Playlists behave just fine.  The issue is with my M3U playlists in my music share folder on my NAS; what Sonos calls “Music Librar”..

I’m looking to see if anyone else in this community with M3U playlists they have indexed into the Sonos “Music Library” can duplicate (play on words) this issue.

There just aren’t that many Cello Concertos!!

It’s strange that no one has added to this conversation. I just checked my file formats and don’t have M3U files. I’ll go up and double check again.

I get a slightly different issue with M3U playlists. No duplicate loading, but information about each track is missing in the queue. The current track plays OK, and shows track name, artist, and artwork, and I can move to next track / previous track successfully still showing all the expected info. However, when I display the queue it looks like this: (PS - all works as expected in SonoPhone)

@John Guarr and @MoPac,

Just checked this and yes, I too am seeing this error with m3u playlists. However I have found that:

* Request a playlist of > 99 tracks and the error manifests replicating to huge totals

* Replication appears to be limited but figures vary - a 100 track playlist replicates 475 times to a total of 47,500 queued tracks. A 101 track playlist replicates to 47,571 which is 471 times so there is a pattern/limit there somewhere...

However:

* Request a playlist of < 100 tracks and all is fine with no replication

* It does not make a difference if some of the referenced files do not exist

* Request a large playlist (>99) from the desktop controller and there is no replication

So it would seem that the Sonos bug relates to a playlist track count of > 99 causing a load loop.

Android app.

(Possibly of interest too, I also found and reported a Bug with SonoSaver v2.4.6 (Windows) appending/combining playlist content when extracting multiple playlists. v2.4.5 is fine though...)

Just getting back, I’m sitting at my desk and checked my complete NAS Library that is indexed from Sonos. From what I can see, all or most of files are MPEG-4 Audio Files (.m4a) and all playlists are > 150 tracks. No problems.

John:

thanks for checking.  May have something to do with the size of the M3U playlist.  I was able to put a smaller playlist of mine into the queue with no issues.  My guess is if the playlist is loadable as the first “chunk” of tracks it will load OK.  If more “chunks” are required maybe that’s when it loads over and over.

When observing the queue loading I’ve seen “chunk” sizes of 300 tracks.  Then another group of tracks loads.  Don’t think there is a specific “chunk” size for the load, but it’s probably more than 150 tracks.

See my previous post - trigger for replication seems to be anything above 99 tracks...

@User117655

Thanks…  Somehow I missed your very detailed post concerning M3U size.  I hope Sonos is aware of this.  I don’t want to have to shorten up all my carefully compiled playlists.  This was not an issue until the 80.14.07- update happened.

Oddly this does not seem to happen with user-made playlists on services.  Is that your experience as well?

Hi,

I don't use playlists with services, all local m3u's or Sonos native...

Re the SonoSaver issue I mentioned yesterday (if anyone is interested). The developer informs me that he replicated the bug and has released a fix at v2.4.7 which is now available 😁

I have no affiliation with SonoSaver but it is a very useful tool to both backup Sonos playlists and/or extract them to various external formats such as m3u.

Worth checking out even if it is just to have a play:

It is to difficult to understand the logic of the tha system to have it worked.

No technicians/developer should present the update but a user. Just to tell the developer that he has created a non logic update. Very complex to start it up,

Hopefully you will create something which is workable for all and not only for whizzkids.

There is a work around though this does not give Sonos an excuse not to fix this duplication of M3U playlists.  If you have access the old “orange” 16.x app or SonoPhone start the offending M3U playlist with either of those apps then it will show properly in the 80.x app ( not duplicate ).
