Hi Everyone

We moderators of the community - @Corry P@Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.

First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.

Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.

Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.

We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:

  • Alarms management
  • Sleep timers
  • Queue management
  • Playlist editing

In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!

Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

Combined threads:

General feedback (not relating specifically to those below):

Queue management:

Alarms:

Playlists:

Music Library:

Sleep Timers:

Please note that there is an official statement that can be read here.

Just incredible that they even have the time to do this. They will be smashing rats for ever if you had the will to live.  For many it’s ruined what was a great idea , good speakers and just worked. Now for me it’s all a chore this constant can’t find, etc etc etc. quite a lot of new era stuff turning up on eBay now too.

Still problems with Calm feed.

Also unable to create and save Sonos playlists.

Spotify and YouTube Music as well as Amazon music ok as far as I can see.

My Sonos S2 app for iOS is not loading. (and S1 redirects me to S2) ?

The App was getting worse and worse….slower and slower...and now it's not even loading???

What should I do (I have 4 Play1, 2 Play3, 1 Sub and 1 Beam!!!)?

Thank you

N.B. When it was still working, it was also getting less and less intuitive to use.

  • Sonos Amp no possibility to adjust analog input settings
  • We need to be able to go back to loaded que when watching TV - this worked always on the old app
  • Still when we go to loaded playlist and que we end up on top and not on the song acctualy playing

Come on now it’s must be fixed, this was essential things in old app.

I admit that there has been aprovments since the disaster in May but come, on just fix….

Mine still “skips out” at times so bad I can’t even use it. Speakers vanish & can’t be controlled or used. I won’t buy or recommend another Sonos product until all this mess is fixed. They can have all the sales they want. They have destroyed what was a great thing.

Plus sneaky firmware update without info that made the old MacOsX application not functioning anymore that had worked just fine with the cue and playlists (point 2 and 3)

Still cannot search music I uploaded to YouTube music. Plus infinite scrolling still not working on lists (just starts from A all over again when reach bottom of page)

Out of curiosity what problems are you having with Calm? I had quite a few issues with Calm (I have a paid subscribtion) in the first few weeks of the new Sonos app, but lately things have been working pretty well with Calm.

Another total BS aspect of this whole update is access to radio stations. My two favourite local stations WQXR and WBGO Jazz NJ are nowhere to be found on Sonos now. The paste url stream fix doesn’t work. This cynical attempt to push users to the commercial packaged radio providers Sonos have done deals with is really lousy and mean. I say again to the Sonos board, just who tf do you people think you are? Tech bros have ruined the planet and you horrors are playing your own full part, taking your customers for complete fools. You continue to treat us all with contempt. May you live long enough to regret your choices.

What do you mean by “The paste url stream fix doesn’t work”? Yes, Sonos has turned to TuneIn for this, for which you need a (free) subscription, but I’ve not read it does not work.

There was and maybe still is a bug on TuneIn Android App. As you have to use one of the TuneIn mobile apps to add an url stream and save it to your TuneIn favorites that won’t work via Android. So you might not be able to get the url station to Sonos because you can’t add it to TuneIn favorites.
Hopefully that has been fixed in the meantime, but I don’t know.

I know it’s not a major thing, but my Bedroom Sonos playlist under the Recently Played section lost its four album artwork. It just has an empty S, and is grey. I’ll play around and hopefully I didn’t completely lose the playlist, since this is the area where I put things right after the stupid app overwrites the entire playlist.

This is new even for the Android app…

Not only no system found but an empty app!

And (when the app is not empty) some album art... PLEASE 🙏

It’s now been five months since this debacle began. My Sonos app is up to date, I’ve followed all the directions Sonos provided for Mac users to access their local library, and I still can’t Update Music Library Now . . . the indexing begins and quits in ~5 seconds.

I think for Christmas my four Play 1 bricks will go into permanent storage in the garage.

@Schlumpf Ah, right. Not a follower of the TuneIn Android app. Always a bit hard when complaints are dropped in this very general way. In the iPhone app adding a url works, though strangely not via the website (where you can remove previously added url’s).

Having heard that things are much better I installed the latest and greatest Android app.

Well things are better.  I can see my local library and its content.  It seems as if ‘scanning for new content’ works.   I’ve played quite a few tracks without glitches.

Still no artwork however.

Also, if I start an imported playlist and switch to new content, the now playing display never updates (although the correct content is playing.  Quitting the app and restarting it seems to fix the issue.

Editing the Home screen seems useless as I can reorder but cannot delete anything.  For example: Sonos Favorites.

There should be some way of turning off tips as it seems as if almost every display screen is cluttered with them.   For example ‘If you don’t see your music library, you may need to re-add it.’  … but I do see it :)  and the tip all the time.

It would be nice to have a ‘go to Home’ capability rather than having to step out numerous levels.  … other than quitting the app and restarting.

All in all, it’s now usable if not pleasant to use.

If you haven't tried it already, then my only advice is to unplug every Sonos unit. Leave them all off for at least a minute and then plug them back in. You can also try restarting you WiFi whilst the Sonos are all off.

Important features still missing:

Ability to create and edit Sonos playlists on Android. Being able to mix music from multiple sources is THE reason I bought Sonos and invested in a NAS system.

Album Art not displaying on Android. A basic feature. I spent a lot of time embedding appropriate quality album art into my local library. Now they don't display on the Android app.

I noticed there was an update to the IOS app. I downloaded it, but couldn’t find any changes or nefarious features that I would use. AND, of course, it still doesn’t hold your place in the music queue and takes you right back to the top when you hit the music queue icon in the lower left corner of the Now Playing window. ******! The only feature that I wanted.

You have to be kidding me.

Just did the firmware update which no one seems to be talking about. ??

What discussion did you want to occur?

Bruce - It’s just been scaringly quiet here for a number of days and I learn a lot from user’s comments. As I mentioned, I performed the firmware update yesterday reluctantly, since I look forward to reading user’s comments before proceeding with any updates. But this time, since it was so quiet, and I usually don’t have any problems with the updates, I took a chance and did it anyway. I went through all the features and checked all the various areas that I would use and am familiar with, but I didn’t notice any additional features. Only thing that I did notice was that I got some artwork back in the Recently Played section of my IOS apps, which I don’t know for sure if that was a result of the firmware update. I did a search in my local library and added a song, but there is still no way to save to my playlist. But then, this was a firmware update, which probably doesn’t add features to the apps. I think.

John

+1 auto updates turned off.
I wait to hear what’s broken before I update. More often than not there’s fixes but also something fubared

No news is usually good news but I’m waiting another day or two to be safe.
