Hi Everyone

We moderators of the community - @Corry P@Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.

First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.

Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.

Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.

We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:

  • Alarms management
  • Sleep timers
  • Queue management
  • Playlist editing

In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!

Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

Combined threads:

General feedback (not relating specifically to those below):

Queue management:

Alarms:

Playlists:

Music Library:

Sleep Timers:

Please note that there is an official statement that can be read here.

Well, iStuff aside, it would be nice to see a return on Android devices.

The notification permissions for the app does still include 'Playback Controls' so hopefully it is intended to reinstate this courageously missing feature...

Just did the IOS app update and of course, when exiting the Now Playing window, it still takes you the top of the playlist and you have to scroll all the way down to find your place. I guess this will never get fixed.  Read the release notes. Not impressed.

Just wanted to add an update and request. Besides the annoying fact of always being taken to the top of the queue, after making changes to the current queue, like adding or deleting songs along with repositioning selections, how do you save your changes. There should be a save icon on the bottom to perform this task. I am running the current IOS version 90.09.07.

Yeah saving the queue to a playlist is sorely missed. I don’t see it on the Trello board and queue management is marked as delivered on iOS and coming soon to Android. So not sure what to make of it.

I cannot understand why the initial May release of this app did not include a queue that follows the music progression.  I have used several control point apps and have never seen one that does not at least follow along.  When I’m on track 258 I want to see the little jumping lines of track 258 centered on the screen when I open the queue.  This is the basics of control point apps.

Sonos alarms still only play chime. Sometimes alarm banner doesn’t come up on phone to stop chime alarm. How can we get Sonos app to play Spotify alarms? It said this had been fixed?

App alarms is hard to find.

Spotify playlists hard to find unless accessed via Spotify app.

Sonos speaker used to be quieter so could listen to it by bed side table. It’s far too loud volume button doesn’t go low enough.

Delete your current alarms, wait two minutes, then set them up again. This should force a new handshake between Sonos and the Spotify server, when your current alarm is going off, it isn’t reaching the Spotify server, which is why you’re hearing chimes.

Latest updated android app arrived for me yesterday and so far I'm definitely seeing a major improvement over last few months experience. Has actually found my system every time, has stopped constantly ungrouping things and just much more stable... Makes it actually viable again... I was seriously considering walking away (with a sizeable Sonos kit list).

Pleased to see I can now specify a favourite streaming service, although don't know why they won't allow me to reorder the remaining ones.

Scrolling through queue remains slow and a pain, with no slider and way too laggy... and still no option to edit queue other than to add tracks.

The app is still behind the old one, but at least my system is usable without me having to open and close the app multiple times and swearing as rooms randomly disappear, system crashes or is painfully slow.

Any one else seen a second iOS app update this week? I got one on Tuesday and then another one this morning (Friday).

Version after today is 80.09.08

It says updated on 18th Sept in Google Play, but in "recent updates" it was 2 days ago. I've been regularly checking for updates, and saw this one install 2 days ago (wasn't available to me before that).

Yes, now that you mentioned it, I just performed an IOS update and updated to that version you mentioned. I didn’t notice anything that I have been complaining about for months, which is going to the top of the music queue upon exiting any of the Now Playing windows or adding a Save button to save edits to the existing music queue. I still have to run upstairs and save my changes on my Windows PC Controller. And I also checked the Release Notes and don’t see anything pertaining to this update. I’m sure it’s only a bug fix to make something more efficient.

If you use AirPlay 2, and the media player on the iPhone , rather than the Sonos app, you’ll get those controls you want. More challenging, since your source device is now tied to the speakers, but if you’re not leaving the WiFi, it should work, if those controls are paramount. But as @jgatie states, it was a decision forced by Apple.

My issue is that the service worked well with Apple prior to the horrendous app update. Now, lock screen control withstanding, the only way to play Apple music is through AirPlay?! Then why do we even need the Sonos app? The convenience of the previous version was what was the appeal, now it’s just an expensive set of bluetooth speakers.

I just noticed that when I search for a song, it only allows the on-line music services and not my locally stored music library. I don’t know for sure when this changed, but I was always able to include my local music library in the search.

In just 10 days it will be five months since Sonos released the "courageous" app. Did anyone really expect that it would take this long for Sonos to fix what it broke? (Or perhaps I should say “to not fix what it broke”.) This remains one of the industry’s great fiascos. Same on you, Sonos.

Just took the IOS update 80.09.08.

1.  Still get errors “Something went wrong” & “Unable to load to queue” then the operation finishes in spite of the error.

  1. Queue still not following the music progress.  Remains on first page.
  2. Still no local library album art in the queue
  3. Sonos…Where is the list of changes?
  4.  WiiM tells me.

I stopped using the app because it was terrible, came back after a while and it's even worse. Time for Naim

Just one simple question really…

why did you release this when it wasn't anywhere near complete?

Sonos was slowly getting better but all of a sudden the App will not find my system from PC or iPhone.

My old complaints remain as well:

No slider in “My Library” to allow me to move quickly through my 30,000+ songs library.

Sonos does no recognize compilation albums like it used to so now I can only play those albums one song at a time.

This app is just plain stupid at this point.

That should be: “Shame on you, Sonos."

Setup my sonos with the new app sep 2024, was a nightmare. Can't find speakers, even after setting up with WiFi network, can't set it up. After multiple resets, finally able to set it up after 3 hours. Few minutes later, registration of speakers in app all lost and multiple try to access using the app without success. Honestly, very bad experience for someone who is new to sonos but took the plunge due to many good feedback. Weeks over, read forum and downgrade to v16.1 and all was well, except can't add any services or do anything with the msg "update needed". Decided to upgrade but ensuring speakers turn on and app showing all good. Kept everything online and did the upgrade. Started the new sonos app and registration and services all registered. Hope the config stay permanent without losing it again. Hope the above steps help newbies like me and those still facing the same type of issues.

Today is Saturday, Sept. 28. I just did a search and was able to find a song in my local music library. So somehow, Music Library is back as a search option. So my main issues are not holding your place when hitting the playlist icon (always going to the top of the playlist), and no way to save to queue. I know I’m talking to dead air, but I just have to keep saying it until someone at Sonos tries using the app and sees this for themselves.

I just checked this site and everything is all quiet? And I just checked for any IOS updates. Nothing yet. I spoke to my neighbor, who is interested in Sonos. I told him the problem of not holding your place in the current playlist and he said that that was a very easy fix. He codes for a living. I’m optimistic.

Yes, but he doesn’t work for Sonos.

The point I’m trying to make here is that coding is coding. Once you know the flow path and logic of writing code, you can write code for basically anything with a small learning window. I just don’t think that the right Sonos people are reading these comments and routing this info to the right people. Either that or it’s just not that important with all the other bigger problems going on right now. It’s just very annoying to me when I search through about 300 songs and just exit the window for a moment, that I lose my place and have to start scrolling down to find my place again, since it takes me back to the top of the playlist. Plus, there is still no save option.

If you go back to 8th May you will see that after 1 day of using the new app a lot of experienced IT development people were questioning whether the fundamental issue was the design (architecture) of the new App and hypothesising that it would take a lot longer to fix than Sonos had indicated.

5 months in the “prophets of doom” seem to have had a point and the question now is are Sonos fixing the architecture or patching up what they have while developing another new app to replace the one we currently have.

Whatever you conclude it is worth taking note of the increase in activity on multiple channels by the Sonos marketing people to reassure us that they are working to put things right and win back our trust. It seems to me that they have finally realised how bad things are and how upset a lot of users are.

Maybe they should have taken us seriously on 8th May.
