Hi Everyone

We moderators of the community - @Corry P@Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.

First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.

Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.

Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.

We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:

  • Alarms management
  • Sleep timers
  • Queue management
  • Playlist editing

In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!

Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.

Combined threads:

General feedback (not relating specifically to those below):

Queue management:

Alarms:

Playlists:

Music Library:

Sleep Timers:

Please note that there is an official statement that can be read here.

Are there any recent improvements to the new app for iOS? I think I have the most recent update, but the queue still snaps back to display the front end of the queue, rather than forward to the track now playing… a real pain when the queue is 500 tracks long. Other queue management seems missing, like saving a queue as a Sonos playlist.

Am I missing something, or is this still ‘in progress,’ or likely to be abandoned entirely?

My latest update also has been a bit buggy, with individual speakers cutting in and out at random. Not a frequent occurrence, but enough to be annoying. Is this a ‘known issue’ or something more likely a glitch in my own network? It had not been an issue for me until the last app update a few weeks back.

No, I’m not losing speakers and everything seems to play alright. My only complaint , which I sited a least 300 times already is that after scrolling down a playlist and playing song 250 - 300 songs down, then selecting the playlist icon in the lower left corner of the Now Playing window automatically takes you take up to the top of the play list and to find the song you had selected and are currently playing, you have to start scrolling down the list and try the find the area of there the song is. Makes it where i don’t even want to use the worthless Sonos app. This feature worked well with the old app, the problems that I see is that you probably laid off the original programmers, do to being too vocol. JUST GET IT WORKING AGAIN! iT’ VERY FRUSTRATING and Agravating. Before I turn in for the night, please get the * thing working so I wont have to sound like a broken record. every day since mid-June.

Still awaiting android update in UK (or at least, I am)... Firmware update has fixed silly compilation album issues in search and I can now play local library at album and artist level but still not folder level and no cover art or Somos playlist/que access yet but otherwise progress 👍

Oh, laggy volume issue seems to have been improved too with no lag apparent...

Hadn’t noticed that the firmware update had resolved the compilation issues but it has. Also, I’m not seeing multiple “sign in” notices so hopefully they are a thing of the past. VERY slowly getting there…

Queue management and the ability to go to an album from a playlist track are features not yet returned and that I used to use a lot, but fingers crossed.

Hmmm…. According to the app (desktop and iOS), there is no firmware update available for me, yet I still have the issue of each track on a compilation album being represented as a separate album….

I’m on firmware 81.1-58074 - is yours the same?

Yes, correct firmware but just checked some more compilations and the problem isn't fixed. I only checked two , which ARE now right, but several others still presenting as multiple separate albums

The promised "Bi-weekly" updates only lasted about 4 weeks. No update for nearly a month now (android). Fortunately the last update at least brought the app up to being usable, but there is a long way to go to get it to what it should be.

Are they distracted by launching the new Arc soundbar, etc? Not sure of the point in launching new products when the experience any user will get is substantially sub-standard.

Strangely, Sonos claims there was an Android app update four days ago. But, as discussed in other threads, it doesn't seem to be svailable for download. For me, the Canada Android Play Store has only the older version (September 18) and I've read others reporting the same thing in the U.K, and elsewhere.

Again, finding much frustration last evening using the IOS app. My main problem again, and I’m sorry to keep repeating myself, is that after searching for a song, about 120 songs down my 400-song playlist, I was interested in knowing what the next song was going to play, but there is no way to perform this operation. If you select the Queue button, which looks like a flag in the lower left corner of the Now Playing window, it exists out and takes you to the top of the existing playlist. At that point I am pissed, since I have to start scrolling down to try and find the currently playing song and find the area that I was playing. Isn’t there a way to place a marker in the playlist which holds my place like the old app did?! I know it can be done, since you did it before. This is the first thing I check every time there is an IOS update. I don’t know why you don’t feel that this is important. IT’S SO FRUSTRATING!!!!

Updated to the new version 80.10.06 on Andriod, same issue of instability.  Start the app the first time working fine, manage to see my system and control the volume. Went back in 30 mins later to adjust volume, pop up the message No Product Found....  basic function still unusable and the company decided to focus on launching a new product. Good luck to your sales!

I can’t even get the new version to see whether it is good or bad.

@SONOS please tell us what is going on.

More Sonos weirdness. Even stranger than not being able to download the latest Android update is the fact that when people comment on Sonos Facebook posts about the latest (non-existent for many) Android update not being available in the Play Store they get a banal Sonos reply telling them how to do Android updates. Then, when they reply again informing Sonos that no update can be done because only the older version exists in their country’s Play Store, their reply is removed by Sonos. My Facebook replies to that effect have been removed three times. Now Sonos is trying to control the narrative.

Also search results differ between the app (Android) and desktop (PC) implementations.

For example, albums with Album Artist tag as 'Various Artists' appear on PC as an Artist but are absent from the app results…

I think I would expect the PC functionality to be correct in this case?

@Toolio I'm in the UK and not in the store here yet - I downloaded the APK from Sonos website and side loaded it as I thought (hoped) it may change the search behaviour, it didn't 😂

After latest android app update (version: 80.10.06-release+20241007.5d80fcb) playback from bandcamp is slower and most importantly the last 6 seconds of EVERY song are not played, there is silence until the next song starts.
NB: instead, for example, playback from Spotify has no problems.

New Sonos App - IOS - Sonos Radio (`tunein) bug. Changing a live radio station does change the logo but not the music. After the commercials it starts the same music as the previous station (had this multiple times). Only terminating the app loads the correct station.

Hi

I have a large library on a NAS but only 50 or so items from particular artists are shown on the app. It is very frustrating that I cannot scroll through ALL albums  like I used to and not just a selection like now.

when will this be solved? Can it be solved?

I borrowed some Denon home items but didn’t like them as much as my Sonos but now I have tried Bluesound and loving it….it works!

I just need to find the money now.

So, this evening (Sept 22nd) I've received new update for Android!! My experience/observations so far:

1) stability and responsiveness improved. No issues with finding system so far.

2) Volume adjustments more reliable and responsive

3) Editing of song queue added. Actually seems to be really nice, quick, easy and working well. Only tried it with a short queue.

4) Added a way of changing between rooms without having to go back to home page. This is better; I frequently would open app, search for something then realise I had the wrong room selected. Previously I'd have to go back to home to switch to correct room and the search all over again. Can now switch without losing the search. *Edit* weirdly it seems this option is only available for rooms that are currently playing! So if the room you happen to have selected isn't playing, the option to switch to another room without having to go back to the home page doesn't exist?!

First off, the improvements to the app are starting to get it back to functional, though I think it is still a bit of a nightmare how many floating things you have to navigate through to select players and then load up music and then edit the queue.

There are a few things that have been missing since the update and I haven’t seen much about when they might return.  These mostly involve how things can get added from my Music Library to the queue (and to be clear this is like 90% of my listening case).  In the old app, if I wanted to add all albums from an artist to the queue, I could just long press on the artist and then have all of the Queue adding features (add/end/replace/etc) and it would apply to all of that artist’s albums.  Now even going to the All category under the artist, you can’t easily add that full list to a queue (you can play/shuffle from there but it removes everything else in the queue with no way to add to existing).

Also how shuffle works seems to have been changed.  In the old app, if I added an album or two and shuffled it would mix them up (this still happens) and if I added more music to the end of the queue it would add them into the shuffle.  Now it just inserts the whole album to the end of the list (while still keeping the shuffle icon lit up but not adding to the shuffle).

The updates seem to be going backwards - regularly have units just disappear mid playblack.

Are you on the latest firmware version?  Should be 16.4.2.  That update fixed the compilation issue.  As far as tagging of compilations goes the Album Artist tag should be the same for all the tracks.  Something like Various Artists.

Desktop now complains it’s blocked by Mac firewall, so that’s obviously Apple’s fault……These Sonos jokers should have all incentive pay, RSUs, whatever half-arsed paper was waved in front of them, torn up. This is Ratner-level (look it up tech bros) levels of brand-trashing. The nightmare never ends,

Yes but results in the Windows and Android apps differ, Windows:

which is correct vs. Android, which is not:

The artist track identified by the Android search is tagged 'Various Artists':

which also fails in the Android search:

A search for the artist does however correctly identify the album and track:

So 'fixed' is a bit of an overstatement. More like improved with someway still to go ☹️

Hi @MoPac , are you sure about the latest firmware?

I have just checked that my S2 system is up to date; it says it is and the Firmware version is S2 81.1-58047, and all my compilations have been showing up correctly since that firmware went in.  My controllers for what it’s worth, are Android, using software S2 V80.10.06 of 20241007.

It looks like @CyclePDX either hasn’t got his system fully updated (and it took me a whole lot of faffing about to finally get mine done), or the tagging is not right as you suggest but I doubt this would consistently show up as the characteristic “each track as a separate album” feature of the previous firmware….

@CyclePDX My suggestion is that you persist in getting the full update done, particularly the firmware on your speakers, perhaps with the assistance of Sonos Support, as that is what sorted the compilations issue for me.  Good luck with it, but it was certainly worth the effort for me.

That’s not to say that there are no other issues to be sorted out, but they are for other threads.

iOS app still can’t find my system (I have one at home and work).  So, when I change location I have to jump through hoops in the app to connect again.  Sometimes I still have to give up and play music on my phone instead.

Once / if connected via iOS app, everything is still very laggy.  Eg volume, changing radio station / track etc.

Even using the volume button on a speak seems to be laggy!

Final moan - I’ve spend >£2k on Sonos kit.  I DO NOT want to be forced to listen to Sonos controlled / delivered ads when I change radio stations (doesn’t do this every time).

What was great a great product has been for some many months - and remains - terrible.

I’ve been out of touch for the past week (hospital) and it seems like nothing is getting done. I had no IOS or firmware updates to come home to. I still have the same problem, which is when selecting the Playlist icon in the Now Playing window while playing a song about 300 positions down from the top, it still takes me to the top of the current playlist. This is extremely frustrating. I just can’t help feeling that Sonos just doesn’t care about the problem, or all the problems that everyone is having. I just read where someone moved and is trying to install their Sonos system on a new WIFI and cannot get this accomplished. I was afraid of something like this happening. It used to be so easy to add new devices to your existing configuration. I wanted to buy two ERA 100’s for my Living Room but will not anymore. That goes for any new Sonos products. I am done upgrading and living with what I have. This whole “new app problem” was created just to sell the new ACE Headphones. They look nice, but because of all these problems, I would never buy them. I remember reading from someone last week, that Sonos is discontinuing the Windows PC Controller app, and in order to play your music, you have to login to a Sonos site to access the same type of application. I tried this and it works okay, but I am NOT going to be required to log into a remote site on the Internet to play my locally stored music. All my music resides on my locally stored WD NAS drive and is my music.

So seven Moves around the house, one didn’t update after latest updates. It had been turned off while the others had been on bases and updated.

Tried for 3 days on my own to try to get it to update.

Full reset everything.

Called Sonos support (or a hired vendor tech support vendor that handles preliminary calls, which sounds like it’s in Quebec) and spent an hour doing what i had spent 3 days already doing and nothing worked.

After an hour of this, I begged off the call as had real life to live and loath having to call again for the act of wanting to play music on my speaker.

I left after she said “let’s go to your inner workings of your router and make sure you’re not blocking Sonos traffic on your router and firewall.” I explained that unless Sonos had done something, 6 other speakers have no issues getting through the firewall. Why would one suddenly be excluded.  So So frustrating… And now one speaker as door stop….
