Why is the new app such a disaster?

Hi.

so.. I’ve been a long time customer of Sonos and have been very satisfied with both hardware and software. The speakers sounds great and the app (old one) was okej, not great but ok.

But now.. What is going on really? Did you not test the app before releasing it? Where you in such a hurry that you did not care if it would hurt your trademark? Because it just did.

I’ve followed all your guidelines to make the app work.

  • Reinstalled hardware + updates too all products
  • checked the router (even placed all my products next too the router)
  • Reinstalled the app.
  • Tried with ethernet cabel (Cat 6)

Almost nothing works anymore. I have problems connecting too my system, my speakers and my connection with spotify and apple music. And I haven’t even mentioned how difficult the app is too navigate around. It’s totally messy..

Did you use a cheap consulting agency?

And I’m absolutely not alone complaining about this as you might have seen. All my friends who uses Sonos are having the same problems and my mother who also uses sonos are losing her mind over this.

I have spent hundreds of dollar (or in my case, thousands of kr, swe). I am considering changing all of my speakers if this doesn’t get any better soon. Please take this criticism seriously and don’t come and say I haven’t tried everything. I have done everything in the right order and everything SHOULD work, but it doesn’t.

And let’s, just for the fun of it, I did anything wrong with my installation. Why make it so difficult installing it correctly? Shouldn’t this system be a easy and user friendly system?

best, and angry, regards
Patrik

I suppose there is never only one factor, but the major one seems to be that they didn’t care about yours and mine issues created by releasing a half backed bug riddled app because of the Ace. Literally you have issues because Ace.

The irony here is the Ace headphones barely need an app (used solely for a handful of settings, not playing music) relative to every other Sonos device.

I agree that the recent update has been a complete disaster.  I now need 10 attempts to change rooms.

As for continuing where a playlist ended : forget it!

I am seriously considering dumping my whole system and starting again with another brand.

It will truly be interesting to see if they take this matter seriously. If not I too will dump this system..

I am ready to sell all of my Sonos speakers (10 plus a sound bar) on eBay if they don’t get it together.  I had one day of decent results w/ the sleep timer, the next night i kept getting ‘Something Went Wrong’ messages.  Something went wrong, alright, you put out an inferior product than what you had.

The way i figure it, I’ve used Sonos for like, 10 years.  They have 10 days to clear this up or i will sell it all on eBay.

Wow, you are going to sell it on E-bay?  Way to hit back at Sonos, selling something they already got your money for to someone who wants it and will probably look to expand in the future.

Well, at least i will get something for it and someone will get a deal on a piece of poo

i figure someone might buy it that already has Sonos, but wants to expand w/o paying Sonos

btw, i didn’t buy any of my units from Sonos, i got them all on eBay

Selling on eBay is a great option - It deprives Sonos of a new sale.

If enough people do that they might get a clue and come back to a customer service business model.

Only way they will respond is if they feel it in their pocketbook.

Not much else can be done to recoup money spent on their boat anchors.

Or you can do what 99% of the people who threaten to dump their stuff on e-Bay do; wait until they fix the damn thing.  Which, by the way, will come at the exact same pace as it would have if nobody made the idle threat to dump their stuff on e-bay (or toss in the trash, or set it on fire, or throw it out the window, or smash them on YouTube, etc., etc., etc.).

If they don’t change anything come back in 10 days and i will share the eBay link.

As a software developer, i can say someone is likely to get fired over this fiasco.

What makes you think the developers wanted this released?  Isn’t it rather obvious that the developers knew it was half-baked and it was released anyway to facilitate the sales of the new headphones?  No development team OK’s something like this. A screwup this big requires marketing and sales, along with the suits.

I agree… It isn’t likely this can be laid at the developer’s doorstep, but a conscious benefit/risk analysis by corporate types and we (Sonos customers) lost.

Reminds me of the airline (true story) that, it was discovered, did a high level analysis of the cost of likely lawsuits resulting from a crash, versus the savings if they neglected to perform vital preventive maintenance on all their aircraft. They determined it would be less costly to risk a crash than to do the prescribed maintenance. 88 lives later, the airline is chirping happily along. I wonder if some of those same executives made their way to Sonos management.

I find the comparison of the decision to release a half baked app for a music system to a decision which resulted in the loss of 88 lives to be a bit of a stretch.

I have no idea what is causing it, but my whole Sonos system (two Era 100s, Sonos arc + Sub Mini) is currently a bunch of bricks.

Wasn’t a fan of the new app, but I still could listen to music.

Then a few days ago started getting random pauses in the music, some speakers dropping off, music stopping altogether. I tried everything in the settings, with network, etc.

Out of desperation I figured I’d do a factory reset on everything and just re-build the system.

I did that, but now I get “error 1,000” or “error 1,105” or whatever and I can’t register the speakers. They just sit there as “not registered” and I can’t “fix it” because I just get errors.

Sonos is rapidly going from my favorite product company to the source of more anger than I’ve had in years. I’m really seething with rage right now.

Why not make a statement and dump all our products outside their doorstep with an angry note saying; “thanks for the app”.

but seriously, I think they would notis if people would start selling of there products and stop returning as customers.

As a start, I think I needed too at least release my fury at a place where the odds of someone from the sonos corporate ladder would see the complaint increased. I do not do these kinds of complaints easily. But I can’t hold this in anymore.

Did they intentionally “shot themself in their feet” because numbers made sense? Well that’s just so stupid in that case. It’s harder too repair the trust for the company then make it great from the start. And why not let the stock market speak? Looking at the curve you can clearly see how people first got excited about the new app, shortly after the stock drops..

OK, it’s only been 2 days, and last night the system worked and i got the sleep timer to work.  But today, on my wife’s phone, it was totally f’d.

I am beginning to gather a list of items, including the speaker wall mounts and extra long power supplies, to list on eBay.

As soon as i do, i will post a link on here and you can all bid on a great collection that once worked and no longer does.  Maybe, with your luck, it will again.  But it won’t be my luck because i am DUMPING SONOS.

Do you hear me SONOS?  Are you ignoring your own ‘general-feedback-and-conversation’ forum?  Do you care at all?

if so, i will deal with the consequences.  Are they really going to sue a customer over being upset about their product.  Think of the news coverage.  It would ruin them.

Besides, i see TOSs all the time and they are a blur.

Sue?  Who said anything about suing you?  I meant that any posts soliciting sales will be removed.

It’s dumbfounding how many people immediately think “lawsuit” around this place.

I work for a firm that will do anything, anything, before going to court
