Ok, had enough. I have a Sonos set up in three rooms which I only ever use when I have company and only for low background music. Because I use it rarely, when I do start it up I am told to get updates and I can not use the system until I get them. Just when I just want to start it and go away (I have guests remember). Finally today I sat down and clicked the Get Updates link and, of course, there was an error and I was told to try again, and again, and again. So I just went over to my Stereo and pushed one button and I had music, instantly, mind you I did have to turn down the volume but that took about 1.5 seconds. I spent a fair amount on money thinking that I was buying quality and convenience. The quality is not that great and there seems to be no convenience at all with the Sonos system. So, the question is, is there any way to set it so that it will ignore updates? After all, it works well enough the way it is  and does not need updates.

The Windows version of the app has had limited functionality for many years. You’ll need to use an Android or IOS app - like when you set up your system originally.

Yes. Turn off Auto updates.

Settings/General Settings/System Updates and toggle to Off.

I think they should also turn off app updates for every device with the Sonos app installed. Or has Sonos changed the matching app/firmware  requirement?

Unfortunately I do not use my phones online or for controlling devices. I guess there does not seem to be a resolution using a PC. I have a Tablet. If I download the app to my tablet and set the auto-update there, will it carry over to my desktop app? I.e. is it specific to my account or the device I am using? If it is specific to the device that means I have to light up the tablet to use the Sonos system or go through the update cycle, which gives me an error on the PC, right?

As I understand it, it’s a system-wide setting - so go for it.

An other solution/work around could be to just not turn the speakers off and let them update when needed.
