Spence says "I’ve been using it since Christmas. Everybody at Sonos has been testing it for months. It has delivered "

They must be using a completely different app to the update they released on 7 May.  Doesn't ring true, I'm afraid.

OR, everybody at Sonos is using specially 'tweaked' devices which work 100‰ with the new app?

OMG! This guy is so out of touch! The App was not ready .. CO summers expect existing features to be maintained a get excited when new features are added. Their app release did neither. The fall out was so predictable.

Now they release headphones that do not support the SONOS ecosystem. Most already have Bluetooth headphones. What most SONOS users have requested is headphones that can be used as another Zone in their system. They have missed out on purchases from loyal and long term supporters of their system.

This is scary! I have to much invested in my SONOS equipment.

He’s been using it since Christmas on his special Blackberry. Sonos Blackberry edition releasing soon🤣 perfect to use with your ace.

This at the end is a Verge opinion, but if true, gives a hint into why this mad rush to put out half baked apps and headphones:

Sonos approaches the all-important release of its Ace headphones and enters a huge new product category that could spur growth amid declining speaker and soundbar demand.

Headphones for growth because speaker/bar sales are tapering off? Headphones should be to boost existing growth, not to plug in gaps, I would think.

And this is the second report that is talking about sales declines.

The declining speaker and soundbar demand will have been accelerated by the new app.

Sonos better hope the headphones sell well.

Sonos CEO better ensure that speaker and soundbar sales declines are first arrested and then reversed. Headphone sales should be just the icing.

This is from: https://www.axios.com/2024/05/25/sonos-headphones-ace-ceo

“But 45% of our sales every year come from existing customers, adding another Sonos product.

That's unheard of in consumer electronics and we're proud that the number one way that new customers come into Sonos is from a referral of a friend or family member. Twenty years later, that's the way we get most of our new customers and that is a powerful model.”

If Patrick Spencer is so proud of the way 45% of sales come from existing customers and so many new customers are referred by existing ones, why has he made such an absolute mess of the app and then treated existing customers like pieces of dirt, didn't apologise or admit there were issues, and knuckled down on their “courageous decision”?
