Google is closing Google Podcasts April, 2024. Google suggests moving your podcast subscriptions to You Tube Music. So I did.
Now, my podcasts are in my You Tube Music library, and I can play them from there. The podcasts also show up in YTM library on the Sonos app. But the Sonos app can not play them. When I try to play one, the Sonos app balks, and a slide-up message says “Unable to play lname of podcast episode] -the connection to You Tube Music was lost.”
Other YTM  items - songs, playlists, etc., play through fine. And Sonos plays podcasts which were added to my YTM library from within YTM. Only the podcasts imported from Google Podcasts to my YTM library are affected. I suspect this is a Google problem, although it is unclear why the podcasts play in YTM but not in Sonos. Any insights?

Hi @verivali,

I’ve seen another user mention a similar issue, which I raised with our internal team. After a quick test, they are able to play Podcasts from YTM, so this may be another issue or it could be with specific YTM music accounts or a regional issue.

I would recommend reaching out to our support team for further testing and troubleshooting, as they have tools available to look into your system to see why Podcasts aren’t playing.

I hope this helps!

I have exactly the same problem. Premium member from Norway

Not sure what a ’premium member’ means, is that in reference to YouTube, or in reference to Sonos? More importantly, what did Sonos Support say, when you contacted them?

Did this get resolved? Were just getting moved off Google Podcast in EMEA and I can't get podcasts to play through Sonos via YouTube Music.

Exactly same behavior here.

Youtube Music migrates podcasts from Google Podcast by using the RSS feed URL. If podcast is hosted in YT Music then is playable in Sonos but the ones externally hosted are the ones that are not working although they are shown in the app.

At least this is what I've observed.

Please Sonos, can you take a look?

I have the same issue. It is not "native" podcasts in YTM but ones imported via RSS feed. Basically all of them imported from Google Podcasts.

If anyone has found a solution to this it would be really nice to listen to podcasts on YTM through my SONOS system.

Cheers.

I checked again today with Sonos support on this issue. I was told that YouTube Music Podcasts are not supported by Sonos. Not that You Tube Music does not provide them to Sonos, but that they are not supported by Sonos. They had no information as to whether Sonos would support them in the future. I'm not vouching for the accuracy of this info, just sharing what I was told by Sonos support.

Sonos has no control over what data is presented by the streaming companies. If the streaming company doesn’t put the content on the server that Sonos has been told to point to, the only thing that Sonos can do is show you the data provided. Sonos doesn’t even sort the data they are fed.

There are other companies (SiriusXM springs to mind) that have not exposed the same content on their own app, and within Sonos.

Sonos provides the API to all streamers, it is up to the streaming company to both set up a server to receive the connections as well as apply the API so the Sonos can read the data properly. I assume, since PocketCasts works without issue, there is nothing ‘special’ about podcasts per se, so that puts the onus on YouTube Music.

Putting on my tinfoil hat, I’d suggest there is still some bad blood between the two companies, given the legal actions, but that would be complete speculation on my part.

At the very least, I suspect lodging your concern with Google, who owns YouTube, would be the best next step.

In my case, I don see all podcasts I’ve subscribed in Sonos app..

Sonos app, select YTM, select Library, select Podcast - it display ONLY 30 shows, even not episodes, as mentioned in some topic here. But 30 shows. WHY? I’ve subscribed to far more than 30 shows! What the issue here?

Even New Episodes folder, where all new episodes should be automatically added - this folder is totally empty on my Android and iOS devices..

So, im not able to hear my favorite shows (

@verivali does Sonos app shows all podcasts for you?
