Sonos is finished. I'm just about done with Sonos

That’s a shame to hear - especially as you’ve only joined this community today to vent after 20 years’ ownership. And, with folk posting on here about the improvements they’re seeing in the app, system reliability, response times etc. it’s a shame you’re still suffering. 

I have also been with Sonos from the start. My first speaker was the ZonePlayer S5, and I have peaked at 12 Sonos devices in my home. And I am still gradually swapping out the older devices for new ones as I can afford to.

In all the years I have used Sonos, there was just one time that I have had an issue. That was when I tried to use a powerline adapter in order to get a speaker connected. I called support, they told me what the issue was, and I made the corrections by removing the powerlines and running a cable. I never had a connection problem since. Even with the changes in the new app, I had such minimal issues, they were not worth complaining about.

I'm sorry to hear that after all this time you are having issues with your system, but what you have described, points to your network.

I know MANY do want to hear that, but think about it: when you have a larger number of people at your home than usual, and your NETWORK AUDIO system does not work correctly, doesn't that say something to you?

More bodies that absorb bandwidth

More devices on your network, if you allow your guests access..

Don't you think this would have an affect on your network?

I have 10-20 people over at least once a week. I play music all day long, grouping my living room, dining room, kitchen and backyard. Honestly, I had only two volume issues in the past year. My network is Ubiquiti’s Unifi line and I have 5 speakers out of 9 hardwired to my network. This configuration works for me…  I have always had a main sonos speaker hardwired.

So, while Sonos may be finished to you, for many like myself, it will continue to provide the enjoyment it always has. Does it have its quirks? Yes it does, but so does every other manufacturer in the electronics business.

Lastly, if you would like help solving the issues you are experiencing, you can ask the community. Thats what it is here for.

But if you intend to say goodbye to Sonos, please let us know where you intend to list your “useless” products. Some of us would like the chance to add more speakers to our system. 🎶 🎼 🎵

Simply amazes me how some post 👆🏼on here that they have had very few to no issues ( lucky them) …but yet soooooo many posts are issue after issue….it seems to be on going. Yet….the answer always seems to be the network…but many didn’t have issues before Sonos changed the app and they had the same network with no issues.

I delved into eBay, using eBay seller tools (Product Research) and checked the trend of how many Play 1’s were being sold and how much over past year. I would assume if lots of people selling, there would be a significant more for sale than a year ago and the price would be going down (supply vs demand).

What I see is there has been a very slight trend for more used Play 1’s being sold (probably existing Sonos users upgrading to Era?), however the average selling price is same as what it was 1 year ago.

This tells me there is a healthy market for use ̶l̶e̶s̶s̶ d Sonos devices, as there always has been.

Saying "it is your network" may well be true BUT it sets completely the wrong tone as a helpful response.

Simply saying "Sonos has changed the way they use your network and it may not be working" conveys more usable information, doesn't put anyone on the defensive or get "but it was fine and nothing changed" responses.

Yes Sonos made a mess, they are slow in fixing it and had no plan for disaster recovery.

Sonos has done a lot to fix things for most users, at least to the point the system is mostly usable.

There are still too many out there fighting intractible issues that make Sonos varying levels of unusable.

Sucks to say but the best path for users today is making sure the speakers and controllers are fully updated. Once that is done and a full Sonos, controller and network reboot is done (not factory reset, don't do that) the remaining issues can be looked into, known broken or missing things must wait on Sonos to fix them. Issues arising from the (cursed?) changes can often be worked around or at least escaleted as issues to be fixed.

Folks here will be glad to assist and if that isn't working then Sonos support can often help.

Sucks to be a user this last year but we can often make it suck less if you want our help.

Hi ​@craigski. I agree that there is a healthy market for used Sonos speakers on eBay as well as the various social media marketplaces. I have bought a speaker or two that had a price I could not let pass. 

While everyone has a right to free speech, I am just annoyed at how many refer to Sonos as dead, finished or want to join a class action suit.

Many have a right to be angry, if the speakers they paid good money for are not working correctly. Some state it's been a year long battle… If I had suffered the issues that some users are experiencing for just a ¼ of that time.. I would have sold my speakers and move onto something that does not frustrate me to use.

I like Sonos because it works for me, just as Ubiquiti, Apple and the URC Total Control line of home automation. Believe me when I say, they ALL have had their issues in my home. But a call to support 99% of the time will help me solve those issues, just as a post for help here, may lead to enjoying your system once again.

Are Sonos speakers “useless”.. not for me and many others, but there are some posts around that can be.

Like I stated in my first reply, asking for help would be a better way of handling things, because we have all seen the ……. rants over the past year..

They said it, albeit on Reddit during AMAs. However, they still haven't admitted that the Playbar, Play:1/Play:3, Connect/Connect:Amp have been (over)challenged by S2 since May 2024.
