I’ve owned Sonus product since they first came out and I updated to the new versions when the updates are offered. I’m familiar with most of the idiosyncrasies the systems and how to resolve various problems. With the new application I started experiencing speaker dropouts random issues with playback and general instability. =—->My Sonos configuration is as follows. Two Sonos play 1s, Two Sonos ERA 300s with a Sonos subwoofer, Two Sonos play 5s, Two Sonos ports one to a Yamaha sound bar and one to a Yamaha receiver, and One Sonos sound bar. —— I’ve been operating all of these with the previous version of the Sonos application without any problems. When I updated the new application today and I had the following problems.———> Random changes to the volume sliders without my touching them. Random selections of speakers or ports sets without my touching them. Random switching of selected speakers or ports; I would select the sound bar and it would go to the ERA 300s. I would set the play 5s and it would go to the sound bar. Sometimes it would say that there were no speakers available. When I did have limited functionality on one set of speakers I attempted to set up the voice control and came back with an errors saying that it was not able to set the voice control. I would try to break and reestablish stereo pairs and that would randomly work. — I verified the routers operation, reset the router, check the ethernet cable integrity to the Sonos sound bar. I ran the Sonos application on an iPad Pro sixth generation. After doing a soft reset on the iPad Pro I had completely deleted and reinstalled the latest Sonos application. Despite repeated attempts following some of the suggestions on the Support site I was unable to get the new application to be stable. I subsequently gave up completely removed the application and set up the older revision of the application on my iPhone 13. I use the old application and I had no problems whatsoever and everything worked perfectly. It’s quite possible that I miss something but right now I suggest the highest probability is this application is not ready for prime time and you should attempt to use it at your own risk. I would recommend that anybody considering updating the new application wait until Sonos comes out with some updates that hopefully fix the stability issues. If you don’t have a back up version of the older Sonus application you might not want to try the new version. There are some other non-Sonos applications available in the Apple App Store that might work in the interim if you get stuck after attempting to use the new Sonos application. I can’t believe that this was thoroughly debugged and Beta tested prior to release given the problem so I’ve experience.

The new app has been terrible too on my android. Mostly, I get a message that says "Something went wrong." The search bar doesn't work at all, and my pinned and saved stations have disappeared. The new app doesn't communicate well with the router, sometimes taking 3 minutes to find the system.

Coming from a very loyal Sonos customer having had reliable service from your amazing company for so many years met a total sh??,, show experience today in using the new application. Using Sonos sub, arc, two play 5. Network disappearing frequently. Application controls do not work. My upstairs Sonos roam speaker have disconnected from Sonos .This is nothing short of a Titanic scale DISASTER. For a company of such high quality to let this happen is beyond belief. Your reasoning is a bit short of satisfactory. I believe you want to control other streaming applications and got tangled in a vicious web. Please help me retain my respect and admiration for your fine company. Get the fix in this week. Patch what you must. And please no lame excuses saying we are trying to improve service because you went backwards ten years.. App upgrade needed NOW!!!! Loyal Sonos customer thanks

it is a disaster… no answer to complains, no communication and no solution or at least a view on the timeframe. As if there are no employees at all in SONOS, only AI or robots...

Try Sonopad for Sonos on the Apple application store. It’s a bit clunky, takes a little getting used to, and not as elegant as the Sonos application when the Sonos application actually works. But It is something we could use until Sonos decides that fixing their application so it’s functional is more important than a new product release.

There are a couple of other applications to control Sonos speakers on the App Store but they require a subscription.

SonoPhone for iOs works on both iPhone and iPad (looks like the phone).  SonoPad apparently scales to iPad screen.

The app has a few limitations like alarms - the author clearly discloses those limitations unlike some app developers (Sonos).

I like it.  The music library search works well.  Queue management, a core feature of old-school Sonos systems, works well too. However, it cannot be used to set up a Sonos system; it only works for playback of an already configured system.  So, you will still need the desktop app or a downgraded Android or non-updated iOs device to add/change services and manage the library.  There may be 3rd party apps to do these things as well - have not investigated that so far.

However, if you have a new system not setup, best bet is put it back in the box and get your money back.

At least it will let us limp along until Sonos decides to get their act together and stop steering for the iceberg.

Thanks for the excellent app  alternatives for consideration. While these temporarily workarounds are a viable option, one purchases a premium product like Sonos not only for its world class leading audio quality, premium materials  & build quality, but also, for its connecting seamless high quality operating software/applications. When one of these components fails, the product suffers. I compare the ease of the B&O (Bang & Olufsen ) apps to match their speakers and honestly, there is no comparison at this fractured stage in my opinion.Sonos is so much better than this .To add an analogy, I purchase a new Rolls Royce automobile, however the wheels are faulty, so in order to temporality drive it, I replace the wheels with compromised quality wheels ? …what is the point? I will be patient for the app upgrade as Sonos has honestly given me many years of satisfaction & enjoyment. I realize this is a temporary glitch, but so disappointing.

I too have been a customer since the start. Great hardware which we’ve all invested heavily in but this latest incarnation of control app is garbage. It randomly stops playing and it’s not my internet dropping. It takes a router reboot to get things playing again for maybe an hour and then it’ll stop. The app returns a measure “something went wrong”! Damned right it did and it’s a function of the new release because I’ve never had this happen before.

It’s interface is confusing and complex and my old NAS drive with my treasured music library no longer works. I tried to connect my laptop but no joy. I’ve spent hours trying to get this garbage to work so why can’t a company of the stature of SONOS test things before they release something major. I’m not trying to do anything difficult, just play music through your system in an approved method. I’ve invested heavily in your kit and provide a stable quality internet connection but frustratingly you can’t join the dots.

Hugely disappointed SONOS and like others, I’m looking for an alternative. GC

I have the same issues.

Are there any alternative controllers for Android? Or better, is there any way to revert to Sonos’ previous version? Yes, the new version offers a flashy new interface, but I was completely satisfied with the look, feel, and most importantly, functionality of the previous version. I wish I had gotten the warning from others before I updated, but now I’m stuck with all the same issues as others in the community as expressed in this string. I have more than a thousand bucks invested in Sonos products so changing to an alternative system isn’t possible. Please SONOS, do your homework and fix the product before you start pumping new devices like the headphones!

I have 2 rooms (kitchen and office) and a roam.  Since the update the kitchen speaker is always highlighted on the app.  If I don’t want to listen to that speaker and select just the office or roam, the kitchen is still highlighted however the other speakers are not highlighted even though they are playing.  The app used to be so easy to select and deselect speakers I wasn’t using.  I’ve wasted so much time on just trying to get the speaker I want to listen to without the kitchen wanting to play. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app and still the same.  Anyone else have this issue?

Been here from the start… 20 zones across two systems - one at home one at my business. I  have been increasingly disappointed over the last few years. But this app update has driven my frustration to new levels of disappointment that are tending toward rage. I just…want… to listen to music.
Not fumble for ten minutes trying the same functions over and over until it finally works. For awhile.
it takes a lot of failed releases and hastily pushed to market app updates and hardware releases to turn a serious fanboy into a hater.
Congratulations Sonos… you did it.

Agreed with all above. In addition to all the technical issues the updated app is causing with the actual system, it’s the very opposite of “intuitive,” and seems to be designed to force you into using Sonos Favorites for your music. I can’t find anything, and when I do, it won’t play. Favorites save multiple times. That sort of thing. It’s cumbersome in the extreme.

My favorite so far: I deleted the app and reinstalled in a desperate attempt to stop the floating “Sonos Favorites” from waterfalling down my screen, signed back in, and now keep getting asked to sign in, even though my information has already loaded. I AM signed in. That glitch should’ve been caught in beta testing.

Please, at least give us the option to use the older version of the app until you figure this out.

Dumping my entire 24 speaker 9 room home system and going to BlueSound

Dumping my entire 24 speaker 9 room home system and going to BlueSound

I’m starting to research new kit now too. I’ve given Sonos enough time to sort this useless app out but it seems as lame now as when it auto updated. No NAS library (which is why I bought into Sonos in 2006) and I can’t even stream Apple Music without my system freezing within a few tracks. Zones randomly drop and then reappear at will and volumes have a mind of their own. I’ve purchased 13 pieces of Sonos kit in the past to fill my home with music but sadly it’s no longer fit for purpose because of their ground-up app redesign. Angry right now because I trusted in them. How foolish! BlueSound here I come……

Sonos software is GARBAGE and keeps getting worse

Another bitterly upset Sonos user !

Can't use this much longer, totally unfit for purpose,

All I get is "something went wrong" or "not connected on system " Why don't they fix it!

Phoned help desk and robot says there is an hour long queue, I wonder why!!

No on line support available either.

Very angry 😡

I agree with what EVERYONE is saying about the total crap update. I didn’t get the option to update it just did it automatically. I called customer service today. There was a 70 minute wait. Please tell me that they are working on a fix! Has anyone heard any feedback from Sonos. Long time loyal customer and cannot get any music to play on our system. I’m sick about it!!

There have been multiple updates so far, you can see the release notes here.

There is also a FAQ that Sonos posted about when some of the issues may be ‘fixed’, according to this FAQ article. I don’t consider this an exhaustive list, but then again no programming team I’ve ever worked with can give definitive schedule information, either.

My understanding is that the FAQ article will be updated as needed.

Thanks for linking to the update list. Interesting and fundamental features that are being drip fed into what’s supposed to be a developed and stable controller app. My system now can’t even reliably mesh and communicate between speakers. Fundamental functionality IMO and unstable. Totally unacceptable and definitely a step back from the previous version which was able to play ins group without continually dropping and freezing as it does now. GC

Here to chime in! Sonos = “Something went wrong, Try again.”

We’ve all invested a lot of money and as someone said above “we just want to play music on our sound system.”

Whatever is wrong with the app, it needs to be fixed. Restarting the router in the middle of a party is not a solution to the problem.

A 70 min wait is like, literally, one CS rep.
