While the New SONOS app seems to work OK with my iPhone, it really sucks when I try to use my iPad. This is NOT good because I use my iPad as the my Go To Device for all my home automation. I have to open the all TWICE to get it to work as it NEVER loads with the first click. Frustrating.

Maybe try reinstalling. The new App opens first time it’s selected on two different iPads here belonging to the Wife and myself. Example attached, taken a few minutes ago (I’m based in the UK).

Thanks Ken...I will give a reload a try…….(FYI, I do have all operating software updated to the latest version).

It makes little/no difference if the iPad is rotated to landscape mode too…

I’m with Ken. I’ve not noticed any significant difference (beyond size) between my iPhone and iPad. I mostly use my iPad, though, as my iPhone is most often in my pocket, and my iPad in my hand.

@Pster

Just to add, the Apple iPadOS here is 17.5.1 and Sonos App is build 80.03.06 (which I believe is the latest Sonos update). Hopefully an App reinstall will resolve your issue.👍

App deletion and re-install seems to have fixed the issue, many thanks Ken, now if I can just get it to stop always defaulting to a SONOS amp with speakers I don’t use very much.

If you use multiple Sonos Households, simply power off the Amp and reset the Sonos App from your ‘Account Settings/App Preferences’ - close and reopen the App and let if find your other main system and when it’s all setup, then power on your old Amp and all should then work with your ‘other’ System/Household instead. HTH

So I have only one SONOS Household system consisting of 2 soundbars, 1 subwoofer, 3 amps powering 6 in ceiling speakers in three rooms and 4 single One speakers in other rooms from wall plug power. Every time I open the app it is set to play a room (kitchen/dining) with amp powered ceiling speakers. I would prefer it always open by default playing my master bed room, which is also 2 inceiling speakers powered from another amp. (FYI, I only have one speaker that is connected via ethernet cable - a soundbar connected to a 70” TV . All other speakers and amps are wireless. I initially thought it was defaulting upon start up to the wired speaker but that is not the case, it’s always the amp for my Kithcen/Dining in ceiling Klipsch speakers.). I am trying to get the system to always default upon start up to my MBR amp. Can I power off the Kitchen/Dining amp and then use the Account Settings/App Preferences to start up with the MBR Amp? I will give it a try later today…..after my Texas Aggies win (?) the College Baseball World Series !! Gig ‘Em Aggies!!

Try changing the names

a mbr

b kitchen

or

1 mbr

2 kitchen

Changing the names of the SONOS devices/rooms had no impact on the device the system defaults to upon start up. Also, after deleting and re-installing the app it’s back to its old ways - I have to open, close and then open again the app for it to load. If I just open the app once it just scrolls and scrolls and scrolls like it’s trying to load but never does. I close, open it again…and voila it loads. Frustrating.

If the issues continue after the next App update (whenever that’s due, hopefully not too far away) then it maybe best to speak to Sonos Support about the matter. Here is the link to call them (if required)…

Ken, thanks. I was thinking the same. I am not a techie, but I know enough to know it is not an issue on my end. I have 350-500 gb fiber optic speeds with Alarm.com, RING cameras, internet controlled garage doors, internet controlled whole house generator, Smart door locks….and more (all installed by myself). They all work perfectly. SONOS is the only app I struggle with. I have advised family and friends with SONOS to not download the new app yet. It just seems like SONOS has used its roll out as a beta test with customers. Maybe not intended, but that’s what has happened.

The SONOS app on my iMac works just fine, as does the app on my iPhone. I think the issue is the app isn’t ready for prime time on the iPad, which as I mentioned previously is sad because many people use the ipad, as I do, to control their home automation. I recall there were many software issues as well when SONOS went from S1 to S2. I even wrote the SONOS CEO and expressed my exasperation only to be offered 30% discounts to upgrade my devices. How was that going to fix the problem?

I will simply await the inevitable “app update” to fix issues that really SONOS either should have known about, or did and just ignored them. I love my SONOS system….and then a new app rolls out and I hate it.
