Just discovered that if you put the artist name in quotation marks “ red hot chili peppers” search will work.. you’re welcome!

Thanks for the tip! I’m using S2 on an iPhone and this works for me. Still, it’s annoying to have to toggle to the numeric keypad to enter “”, so I encourage a software fix to eliminate this requirement.
