Why do Sonos S2 & SonoPhone apps load a different number of Amazon tracks?

When I load an Amazon Music Unlimited playlist I created that has 498 tracks, why are a different amount of tracks loaded when using two different apps?  When I use Sonos S2, 400 of 498 tracks are loaded.  When I use SonoPhone all 498 tracks are loaded.

If I load the 498 track playlist using SonoPhone the queue on Sonos S2 shows all 498 tracks.  Weird!

Hi @MoPac et al

Thanks for your post!

We are aware of this situation whereby large Amazon Music playlists will fail to load entirely into the queue and are investigating.

We have no estimate for when this might be resolved, but I will update this thread when I hear of it.

I hope this helps.

Hopefully they will fix the phone app.  Don’t want to have to use SonoPhone every time I’m loading Amazon Music playlists.

It’s not just an issue with Amazon Playlists. I’ll see similar results with NAS based Playlists. I’ll fuss with Playlists that are 10’s of thousands of tracks. There are rounding errors there too. The iPad controller might round at xx000 while the Windows desktop controller gets it right. On occasion I think there might be a timing issue as the players share data or move things around internally. In my case I shouldn’t have bumped into a fundamental storage limit based on the RAM in my iPad. If a buffer is exhausted, it’s an App issue, not the size of RAM in my iPad.

It’s not an important issue for me because I tend to use the desktop controller when fussing with playlists. Therefore I don’t spend any significant amount of time exploring the details.

Just tested the other services I use other than Amazon Music Unlimited.  Also checked the playlists I have in my local library.  The services are Apple Music, Spotify, Qobuz.  All the services load the entire playlist into the queue.  Also in my local library all the playlists load all the tracks.  Only Amazon Music Unlimited suffers from a partial loading of a playlist.  It does look like it’s being rounded off as you describe.

When this partial, rounded off, loading occurs it creates another issue.  When I’m in the queue and I tap on a track to play it plays some other track in the queue.  I’ll have to see if the wrong track that it plays is at a repeatable number of tracks away from the one I tapped on.

Now this queue loading problem is also happening with Apple Music.  Again, the loading of user created playlists is being rounded off when using the Sonos app.  The SonoPhone app loads the entire playlist.

The screenshots are from Apple Music.

Have you called in to provide data to Sonos Support, so they can pass it on to whomever is reproducing this issue, and fixing it?

I do need to do that.

Might help…might not, I sure don’t know, but better to feel righteous than not…at least you will have done your part.

Note that Sonos recommend music services keep playlists to a maximum of 500 items, to avoid problems with the 10-second timeout on API calls.

Since moving to cloud-based-interop the app code has changed a lot, but the underlying limitations of SMAPI have not.

I’m cool with that.  But when a playlist of 486 tracks only shows 400 tracks when loaded by the Sonos app that’s on Sonos.  SonoPhone loads all 486 tracks.

Oh for sure, that’s the crappy mobile app. SonoPhone and my apps have no problem with this, and neither does the official Desktop app. The fancy new mobile app uses some kind of crappy framework UX for lists that has arbitrary size limits.
