SONOS S2 App on Mac OS Issues

Suddenly the SONOS S2 app on MAC OS Sequoia 15.7.3 when it starts it spends 5 - 6 seconds searching for the sonos network. Then announces my Firewall settings need changing. Funny as the firewall is turned off on this particular laptop. Anyway it eventually gets past this and then announces the app needs an update. Hit the search for updates button, funny as there are no updates. What the hell is going on with this piece of junk?

Maybe unrelated but when playing across multiple devices, some devices go quiet for upto a minute then continues. No indication of issues and at least one device continues playing without issue.

It sure sounds like the Mac is having trouble reaching the Sonos devices. Of course, the Mac app hasn’t been ‘updated’ in years, since essentially they removed all setup features, and put it in maintenance mode. Which is why they require a mobile device and controller for setup. That being said, I’m not having delays on my Mac using the S2 controller when contacting my speakers, and playing music.

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, Sonos’ lawyers get sensitive about GDPR, I suspect.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

MAC app stopped working and I received the message explaining Intel won’t be supported shortly.
Deleted and reinstalled but app won’t open at all.

Deleted again and reinstalled x 3 still won’t open.
Toggled off and on local network setting but still nothing.
App has dot below it on bottom of screen suggesting it is open, but isn’t anywhere to be seen.

Anything else I can try?

Try clicking the apple and selecting “Force Quit”. If it shows in the list, select it and click “Force Quit”. Reboot your mac. If you haven’t already deleted sonos, do so and then reboot again. Install the app and toggle local network off/on.

I’ve done that maybe 7 or 8 times. no joy

That’s all I’ve got. Maybe someone else has another suggestion.

S2 is in an endless loop on my M1 Mac with Sequoia 15.3.2, wanting to

  1. upgrade and then concluding there is no upgrde required
  2. firewall has changed… no firewall present on my Mac
  3. one or more components need registering. When selected, no components need registering
  4. Reset the app. After reset S2 easily finds my system.

This started 3 days or so ago, all of a sudden, without upgrade of both S2 and Mac!

When selecting More Options > About My System I see my full system. In other words, the S2 app can connect to the system and manipulate it This is no network issue.

I did completely remove and reinstall, but S2 has not been updated for a long long time unlike earlier promises that S2 would be brought back to a status where an additional sound source could be added to bypass the 64k limit of tracks ( I have 160,000+)

Despite that the UI is not functioning, I am able to partly manage my System using the broken S2 app using the right mouseclick on the S2 icon. Volume changes cannot be made however. I can change rooms, play/stop etc

endless loop

This is the endless loop
How to move back to a proper working situation?

Go to the App Store, search for “phonos ultimate”, use that.

@fd0, besides controlav’s suggestion :), check to see if you need a firmware system update using a mobile controller. iOS or Android.

You might like MiSonos. Go to github.com and search for misonos. You can run natively on the mac.
