SonoPhone...The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread....????

I purchased/downloaded SonoPhone just to see what all the hype is about. It’s one of the  blandest  app’s I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of something from the 1990’s. As far as functionality goes….IMO it’s the old Sonos S1 app.

Appearances...well once again a picture speaks volumes…..

On the left is the SonoPhone showing “Music Services” and on the right is the Sonos App that shows “Your Services”. Oh..wait...the SonoPhone doesn’t show anything. I guess it couldn’t find them. 😂

Oh well...moving on….

On the left is the SonoPhone “Playing Now” screen and on the right is the Sonos App “Playing Now” screen. Let’s not talk about which screen is more intuitive. The yellow circles on the Sonos App show what’s missing from the SonoPhone screen. The “volume level indicator” is only circled to show it’s readable at a glance; without having to touch the “volume slider” as is required on the SonoPhone screen.

Let’s not forget the SonoPhone limitations. Haven’t people complained about not being able to set “Alarms” in the Sonos App; or maybe that was my imagination. 🤔  Anyway...My personal favorite is the inability to play music stored on an iPhone.  Oh no😲 ..say it ain’t so Joe! 😥

I know I ruffled a few feathers. However, a comparison to express another point of view was warranted. As I suspected the $3.99_USD was a waste of my money; but on the other hand worth it to reconcile my belief.  That’s my opinion; but each to their own.

I'd say your post breaks a fair few of the rules in the Rules of Conduct you've linked to, is deliberately posted to antagonise, and should be closed.

As an app author myself (not of Sonophone) I’d be really pissed with this post. The correct thing to do with apparent bugs is to contact the developer themselves - I know Stefan (the author, who is not on the forum) and I are very responsive to customer reports and feedback. Unlike Sonos for the last year.

You complain about the Limitations list and yet two of those are not supported by Sonos themselves, one took six months for Sonos to add back (and still doesn’t work right) and one, well, I don’t know what his problem with YTM is.

UX is always debatable - though even worth discussing here. The new Sonos apps look pretty in screenshots but are terrible to actually use.

The first post has been edited at least twice since I posted that it contravenes the very Rules of Conduct he originally said not to.  Ironic that that part has now been edited out - but changes nothing that it’s still against the Forum’s rules.

Also ironic in that “As far as functionality goes….IMO it’s the old Sonos S1 app.” has functionality that S2 users would really like to have back.

I didn’t complain about anything regarding the limitations of SonoPhone. Furthermore how can I complain when I don’t use the App. I merely pointed to an issue that has been touted regarding the Sonos App that apparently is no better with SonoPhone. Also, one can’t play music stored on an I phone with SonoPhone.  My comparison is what I see between the two apps. Not a complaint by any stretch of the imagination. FWIW…my system works fine and never experienced all the failures talked about in this forum going back to a year ago.

You can’t play stored music with the official app either, so I am missing your point entirely.

Yes, we know its worked fine for you, but clearly not for everyone, and many of the users who experienced the epic fail of the official mobile apps have been exceedingly happy once they tried a third party app like Sonophone.

The “best thing since slice bread” is of course the toaster.

Unfortunately, I can not use my toaster to play locally stored music on my iPhone, but it does make good toast 😀

I use Apple Music for all my downloads stored on all my apple devices. I can therefore use AirPlay to send music to my Sonos. Not that I need to as Apple Music as a streaming service replicates everything on my device.

In the interest of fairness…I’ve removed the statement advising others not to waste their money on SonoPhone. How others which to spend their money is not my concern; nor should it be. If others are happy with SonoPhone then my post (viewpoint) should have no bearing and new users are still welcome to try SonoPhone for themselves.

I don’t know about you but I research things before I buy. That’s not to say that I always make the correct buying decision. However, $3.99-USD shouldn’t break anyone so the risk is extremely low.

I don’t store music on my iPhone or iPad…but have “my music” in Mixcloud and SoundCloud services which SonoPhone has…and plays it all. Who needs music stored ?

I for one appreciate your test.  Having seen all the hooplala around this app I had considered taking a look at it,  not that I have issues with my Sonos system but out of curiosity.

The thing I find interesting is the outrage about this.  After all the drive by trashing done here and all the alternative product flag waving a side by side compassion seems pretty.....passive, by comparison.

I have to admit though I did run into a Sonos feature issue last week.  I set a bagel down on top of an Era100 as I walked by and it flipped out.  We need a bagel button in the app, even a toaster has one.
