Imported Playlist on Android will not add or play

I can't add Imported Playlists to the queue in the Android app from my Music Library.  This was working previously in the Android app.  Doing the same Imported Playlist in the Windows version of Sonos app is working without issue so it is not an issue with the Playlist.

The Android app can see the tracks in the playlist, but if I click on the play or shuffle icon it just spins away doing nothing.

If I try to add or replace the queue with the tracks from the playlist it just spins.

If I click on the three dots next to.the track and select Play Now, the track plays.

This is broken for even Imported Playlists with 1 track.

Is this a known issue that's been broken in a recent app update? I have searched but can't see anything about imported playlists broken on Android recently.

Android App Version:  83.01.9

As update, I reached out to Sonos support where the AI support chat ran through all the basics, but it did not resolve. Transferred to a person, where I was told to update my Music Library which didn’t resolve.  I explained this is a bug but was told by Sonos Support agent that this feature is not available in the Android and the IOS mobile app.  I mentioned this was a previous feature so either it was deprecated without notice or its a bug.  I was told to just use the Windows desktop app to manage imported playlists.

I’ve paid for “Phonos Ultimate” which is an Android alternative to the native Sonos Android app.  I can add Imported Playlists without issue on Android with it.

Hello roramb,

Thank you for this workaround, it is working this way. It’s better than adding each song one by one to the queue. But it's a shame that Sonos doesn't even communicate about this problem 4 weeks after the first post

Hello Niels,
I’m glad to hear it works for you.
This workaround is not Sonos-provided, just something I’ve tried, as a regular user, while trying to find a solution to the imported playlists issue on mobile devices.
Cheers!

Latest app update on iOS (84.01.6) released on 2nd May has still not restored this functionality.

The desktop controller for MacOS can still add all of my locally-stored playlists to the queue, so it’s  doubtful that this is an issue with Sonos withdrawing support for XML playlists.

It’s great that there are workarounds - but as I have over 100 playlists maintained via Apple Music, it would be impractical to keep on recreating them all as Sonos playlists.

Any word on a fix for this issue, Sonos?

You could get the software Tune My Music which can convert XML to M3U.

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately I’ve got a library of nearly 20k tracks, and I’ve had some fairly poor experiences with using software to try and match them (eg importing playlists to Spotify) as it often can’t identify the correct / specific version of a track that I need.

It’s a reasonable expectation that Sonos should acknowledge the issue and give us a timeline for a resolution.

This is functionality that was deliberately restored to the iOS app last year, so I can’t imagine it has been removed deliberately; it’s a bug and it needs to be fixed!

I wasn’t suggesting you do XML to Spotify.  I was thinking you could convert the XML playlist to a M3U playlist file and have Sonos index the M3U playlist files rather than Sonos indexing the XML playlist files.  I’m not positive Tune My Music can make that XML to M3U conversion, but that is what I have read.  I will be investing in Tune My Music just to hopefully archive my Amazon & Apple user generated playlists in the M3U file format.

And, like many, many other software companies, Sonos never offers a timeline for bug fixing.

Spotify promote a link to Tune My Music as a way of importing your music collection onto their platform (including the facility to upload your own local iTunes Library XML file).

I’ve used it myself in the past to recreate some of my playlists on Spotify so that I could stream them to an older Sonos Playbar (which doesn’t support AirPlay).

However the process was pretty time-consuming as I had to identify and replace hundreds of tracks that the software could not match correctly. I also couldn’t see any way of using Tune My Music to save the playlists it extracted from my iTunes Library XML file back onto my local system as M3U files.

I’m aware that I can just use the Music app to export individual playlists as M3U files - but as I have over 100 playlists, it’s not practical to keep doing this on a regular basis.

The Sonos desktop app can still read the playlists from my iTunes Library XML file - the iOS apps should be doing it as well.

Acknowledging the issue would be a good start! 😉 However, as far as I can see there is no official comment from Sonos anywhere on this thread…?
