Can't access music library

Hi community,

I used to be able to play my whole music library through SONOS - however, this is no longer working and I cannot reconnect to the library - I get various error messages.

I have tried the connection methods suggested online but to no avail.  Any ideas?

What is the error message? Where is your local music library located? NAS, PC, Mac, other? Is it set up as an SMB v2 or v3 share on your network?

Have a look at this and see if it helps: Add your music library to Sonos

If not, Sonos support can probably tell what the problem is and help you resolve it. Try submitting a diagnostic (Submit Diagnostics) within 10 minutes of getting an error. Then call Sonos Support (Sonos Support) to discuss it. They may be able to see what’s going on since they have access to information about your network and sonos system that no one here has. Don’t post the diagnostic number here, though.

With no clue what either of you have in the way of Sonos gear and software, or your library server, making a useful suggestion is unlikely.

If you run a scan and get the message “No longer available” or something to that affect the network path has mostly likely been altered.

On what/where is your library residing (i.e. NAS, Computer or external drive)?

Maybe this will help? Add your music library to Sonos

Without any other information from you (both), there’s not much else we can offer.

Thank you. It’s on a PC - not at home right now to check error message.
I have tried submitting diagnostics and spent over an hour on the phone with Sonos support.  They couldn’t work out why it was failing to add my library and couldn’t work out how to fix it 🤷‍♂️

I’ll try again later and post an update

To clarify - I have a Sonos Play 1,  2 Sonos Play 3’s, 1 Sonos Roam and 1 Sonos Beam.  I have NO issues streaming Apple Music to all of these speakers.  The issue is specific to my Music Library which is located on my laptop.  The issue is weirdly intermittent - some mornings I open my Computer - go to play music from my library and it works without issue - but Most of the time, it only streams to one speaker (but the app says it is playing to all of them). What is odd is that I NEVER have that issue with a streaming service.  I have tested my WiFi connection throughout my home and it is quite strong - I do not have connection issues with any devices.  I am at a loss.

I don’t think sonos deals well with having your music library on a laptop. Laptops go to sleep, get turned off, leave the area. The IP address changes. Having the music library disappear probably affects sonos systems negatively. It’s best to put the library on a NAS, or at least an always on PC/Mac.

Except I’ve been streaming from my laptop for years without incident until this latest Sonos update. And this morning it played just fine - until it didn’t and the laptop had not gone to sleep. Maybe something in The update has made this an untenable situation (yet again)?

Does your libary contain WMA files? I know there is a problem currently being addressed regarding  those.

The only other advice I have is to see if Sonos Support can see what is happening. Try submitting a diagnostic (Submit Diagnostics) within 10 minutes of experiencing the problem. Then call Sonos Support (Sonos Support) to discuss it. They may be able to see what’s going on since they have access to information about your network and sonos system that no one here has.
