All speakers unmuting when I change the volume

I can hardly believe I'm writing this, but the most recent app update has reintroduced a bug I complained about on here a year ago, and which was subsequently fixed.

https://en.community.sonos.com/controllers-and-music-services-229131/mute-individual-products-6902079

I have all my speakers grouped together and mute/unmute them as I move around the house, because it's easier than grouping/ungrouping them.  I don't want them all on all the time, as it disturbs my neighbours.

Following the most recent app update, my speakers now all unmute themselves every time I change the group volume (even if I'm turning it down!)

Why? How could anybody think this is a good idea? When will this unwanted functionality be removed (again)? More generally I am so sick of Sonos needlessly dicking about with things which work fine as they are. God knows if they want to change the app there is a long list of things which don't work properly - it's a dog's dinner.

It's clear to me that Sonos have learned nothing from the S2 app debacle.

In the meantime, until this is resolved on Android, the muted grouped speakers will stay muted if you adjust the group volume using the (+) or (-) options, rather than sliding the group volume control.

Good afternoon - I tried replicating this on my iPhone and was not able to - you may want to report it into Sonos Support and run diagnostics.  Changing the group volume up or down had no effect on the muted speakers - see attached screenshot:

Thanks

This appears to be an android only problem here. It works correctly on iOS, but all grouped speakers unmute on group volume change on android.

@DunkirkPie

You’ll probably get more traction by contacting Sonos support (Sonos Support). No one here can do anything about it. It’s clearly a bug with the current android controller.

l wonder if the feature you are missing was actually a feature at all. Meaning it manifested itself as a by-product of another actual designed/intended feature.

Furthermore (to my knowledge) I don’t recall reading about it in Sonos documentation regarding Groups. Nor have I seen any mention of it in the community other than this post and the one you posted over a year ago.

However, if it is a feature gone south I hope Sonos can resolve it.

Guess I imagined it then 🙄

Huh? This works correctly on the iOS controller and not on the android controller. How can you come to that conclusion? Just think about it. You mute certain speakers in a group. You then adjust the group volume. You don’t expect the muted speakers to become unmuted. They don’t become unmuted when using the iOS Sonos controller. But they do when using an Andriod Sonos controller. And you think that’s an actual designed/intended feature?

Not saying that you couldn’t do what you said regarding volume/muting changes with Groups. What I am saying is that it may be an unintentional perk in the Sonos Fabric that proved beneficial to you and possibly a few others. However, the lack of activity/conversation in the community regarding the feature having gone missing is virtually nil. Therefore your best option as suggested by @kdowling is to contact Sonos support.

Read my post again….especially the words preceding those you chose to target in your last sentence.

Inferring that the reason this works on iOS, but not android, was because of another (unnamed) design change, is bizarre IMO. So, it shouldn’t work on iOS, that’s just a lucky accident? It’s also an accident that it did previously work on both iOS and android? You don’t need to answer. I have nothing more to say on it.
