Since the update to macOS Tahoe I have been unable to connect to the Mac Sonos app. I have re-installed the app but that has made no difference. I spoke with an agent on Sonos chat and he said as the update had only just happened that might be the reason. I thought that’s why Apple released beta versions so cos could sort out any problems prior to the general release. It’s working fine on my iphone that was updated at the same time
Mine seems to be fine. Running S2 on a M1 MacBook Air on Tahoe 26.0.
Make me wonder if there’s a local issue of some type.
Make sure you have given the app permission in Tahoe 26.0. Below is AI generated how-to:
How to Give 3rd Party Apps Permission in MacOS
To grant third-party apps permission on macOS, follow these steps:
-
Open System Preferences: Click the Apple icon in the menu bar and select "System Preferences."
-
Select Security & Privacy: In the System Preferences window, click on "Security & Privacy."
-
Adjust Permissions: In the "General" tab, click the lock icon to unlock changes. Enter your administrator password if prompted.
-
Allow Apps from Any Source: Check the box labeled "Allow apps downloaded from: App Store and identified developers" to allow apps from Apple's trusted vendors and developers. Alternatively, select "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere" to allow apps from any source, including unverified developers and sources.
- Adjust Accessibility Permissions: If the app requires accessibility features, you can grant or deny permissions in the "Accessibility" section of the "Privacy & Security" settings.
Always ensure that you trust the app and its developer before granting permission. Be cautious, as untrustworthy applications may misuse their permissions to collect personal data or make harmful changes to your Mac.
Thanks for your reply, i have checked the permissions, the only 2 there now are
1 app store
2 app store & known developers
I have tried both these with no change
First of all….it’s called System Settings now...not system preferences
Second of all...Privacy and security
Third of all...there is NO lock icon in General tab
Try again please...Thanks!
Same issue here. Mac Min M1. (headless)
Sonos installer has full disk permission as does the Sonos server. Reinstalling the Sonos app didn’t help.
I did see Tahoe turns on FileVault; turned it off, no joy.
Sonos App works on iPhone (vs 18.7), iPad (iPadOS vs 26) and MacBook Pro ( Mac OS 15.7)
I suspect this is a Sonos issue that they should fix while they port to Apple silicon since Rosseta will be deprecated in the next Mac OS. (Only been 5 yrs!)
Sonos, you want to chime in?
There are very few Sonos moderators on this community site. If you need Sonos assistance directly, I’d recommend you call Sonos Support to discuss it.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
They may be unaware of an issue, however. As I indicated, in at least my case, things are working fine. Hopefully, your calling in might lead them to uncovering if this is an endemic issue, or one that is local to your setup.
Having no issues with the Sonos desktop app in MacOS Tahoe 26.0
Mac / Processor
- MacBook Pro 16 inch / Intel i9
- Mac Studio / M1
- MacBook Pro 16 inch / M2
- MacBook Pro 13 inch / M3
- Mac Mini / M4
Mac System Settings
- Firewall > Sonos > Allow Incoming Connections
- Privacy & Security > Location Services > Sonos > On
- Privacy & Security > File Vault > On
- Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode > Off
Additional settings in my Mobile App for iOS and Android *
Profile > Privacy & Security > Connection Security
- Authentication > Off
- UPnP > On (Must be enabled as it has a direct correlation to the Desktop App)
- Guest Access > Off
* Primary device is iPhone iOS 26.0
Same problem for me on MacMini. Done all things listed abowe. Nothing helps.
Thanks for everyone’s help and suggestions.
I went through system settings and re-authorised anywhere Sonos was mentioned and fired up the desktop app and it works again. Sadly I can’t tell which setting it was as I didn't have the patience to check after every change.
Probably the local network permissions under the privacy settings. They tend to get reset after macOS updates. This time after the update to Tahoe I had to grant them again for the Spotify app.
Settings are same as AJTrek1. (Except I don’t use FileVault or Firewall) Local Network access is on for Sonos.
I ddi speak to Sonos, twice, and they say call Apple/the hardware vendor. Not a great answer since it clearly is related to OS 26. (was working fine before the upgrade)
The error it throws;

Sonos has no clue nor do I.
What device are you using and is UPnP turned on?
When you ask device, do you mean the computer with the problem? It is the aforementioned Mac Min M1 now running Mac OS 26.
UPnP ia turned on at the router, yes.

Device in “Community Speak” refers to your phone or tablet where you can do anything using the Sonos App. The desktop app is just a player. Go to the Sonos App on your device and follow the paths as shown starting from the home page:
Profile > Privacy & Security > Connection Security
- Authentication > Off
- UPnP > On (Must be enabled as it has a direct correlation to the Desktop App)
- Guest Access > Off
Had same issue, all I had to do was in the network privacy settings turn sonos off and on

You were fortunate. For others the settings for Mac are necessary (regardless of MacOS) with the exception of FileVault which is on by default in MacOS Tahoe 26.0. The user can choose to turn it off if desired.
The settings for the Mobile App are optional except for UPnP which must be on. Turning it on at the router level does not negate the requirement to do so in the App.
Actually, I do all the system management from my desktop app. It does have the same functionality as the device app. In fact, it was the desktop that first allowed adding local music to Sonos.
Regardless, the settings on my iPhone are the same as yours except I allow Guest Access for obvious reasons.
I will add, the Mac OS Sonos apps works correctly on my MBPro notebook running 15.7/Sequoia.
This was happening to me as well, and I had everything set fine according to (e.g. Firewall is turned off - https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/configuring-macos-firewall).
What fixed it was Settings / Privacy & Security / Local Network. Sonos was already turned on - I toggled it off and then back on again, and the app was able to connect.
I seem to remember doing this a few months ago with Sequoia as well.
Thankfully I can always access via my phone or iPad, plus via the web at https://play.sonos.com/en-us/web-app - but it’s nice to have the local Mac app working again.
There’s a programmer type who frequents this forum (and has written his own Sonos interface software) who has said that Apple’s code for the local network setting (and I’m paraphrasing!) was poorly implemented. I’m not overly surprised to read your issues, and glad it’s working again for you.
doogm!
That is so obscure. I thought about toggling all the Sonos prefs in SysPref but didn’t.
So, I just did toggled Local Network off then on and that solved the issue. The Sonos app is now connected.
Thanks for the push.
