We just moved to a new house and reconnected our NAS and Sonos speakers… only to discover that we can no longer play all the music stored on the NAS.  Using the iOS app, the Music Library is there, it shows our albums, the cover art is missing  and nothing plays.  There is simply no option to edit the folder, add a new one, or otherwise manage the Music Library.

We have 2 Sonos One speakers.  Our music library is stored on a QNAP NAS which does support SMB 2 and 3.  The Sonos ios app on our iphone 13 and 14 phones will not work…

I’ve read a lot of comments on this and am trying to sort it out.  How can it be true that Sonos would remove the ability to play from my own music library… when they are still advertising that this is a distinguishing “feature” for the system?

Hi @mnoreen, I’m afraid your assessment is accurate: last month Sonos removed support for SMBv1. Might there be a firmware update for your QNAP NAS that adds support for SMBv2?

You can consider ‘downgrading’ your system to Sonos S1, which does support SMBv1. That comes with its own issues, namely the dead-end S1 app. Oh yeah, and the fact that Sonos has not yet implemented the downgrade feature in the new app.

I’m not sure I follow.  Our music library is on a NAS that does support SMB 3 (and 2).  Also, there is simply no option in the iOS app to add/edit/manage the Music Library whatsoever.

Ahh, I misread your original post @mnoreen! As you’ve gathered, the new iOS app is—to put it politely—under construction. And one of features most under construction is support for local library music.

The Windows and Mac desktop clients are still on the ‘old’ codebase and happily will allow you to add your local library. That’s a one-time thing: once you’ve added your local library music in the desktop app, it will appear in the new iOS app. You can download the desktop apps here: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/downloads.
