I’m trying to update Controller on my Windows 11 machine, which normally is not an issue, but today I’m receiving the error "The Sonos controller installer failed to download".  I’ve tried rebooting but no difference. I have 90 GB free on the hard drive. Any suggestions? Thanks

Download it directly from Sonos.com

I just tried that and it did not upgrade the version (still 16.4.2) and I still have the error downloading the update from within Controller. Thanks for the suggestion, though

On a Windows 10 PC I get that error every time I update even though the update shows that is has taken the update.

I normally get an error on my Windows PC that the install failed and then it retries and says I have the latest version.  This is different. I guess I’ll contact Support. I was hoping this had an easy fix.

i am ( have been ) having the same issue .

so frustrating .

did anyone figure out a workaround ?

An update: I just chatted with Sonos support and it seems I have the latest version. They asked me to give it a few days to see if the “Update Now” goes away and reach out to them again, if it doesn’t.

Me too, still seeing the same after at least a week, app 16.4.2 build 81158074  and Version: 16.4.4 (build 81158110) for actual devices

Your versions match mine, ianmac.

I’m having the same issue. I love my Sonos system but for the amount of money I've invested because that's what it is, an investment, this problem shouldn’t be a problem.

still no change after a couple of weeks.

If i didn’t have 15+ Sonos’ I’d be switching them out for something else at this point.

The product and software seems to be getting worse each year

It hasn’t gone away on its own. I’m just going to keep trying to update occasionally. Eventually there will actually be an update to install!

My speaker firmware is on 16.6.x but the latest windows 11 controller is only 16.4.x so when it launches, it sees my system and states there is an update.   When I update, the download fails and says try again.  Nothing works and I am no longer able to control my system with my Windows laptop.  iOS is working fine so I’m not totally locked out, however my Windows laptop is my daily driver for controlling my Sonos system and I’m frustrated that this has happened.

It should be noted that the software would launch stating “Sonos Beta”...But when that app notified me that there was a controller update, I updated it and now when launched, it no longer says “Beta”.   I suspect that the beta software was given a bad URL for updating to new beta software and therefore it upgraded me to a mainstream non-beta build which has a lower 16.4 version number.

This is a logical reasoning, however I am unable to download a windows 11 beta release as there are no URL’s published anywhere for this sort of action.
