Hi Sonos Community, I am trying to connect a USB hard drive to my router which I have loaded with songs from my computer and play through Sonos using the app. Some time ago this worked fine by the following:

Manage - Music Library Settings, using a path as - //192.(IP Address...)/Name of Drive but this errors out when I progress further. It seems to be since upgrading to Windows 11 or possibly because the Sonos app has changed? I have also read that SMB security settings need to be set back to v1, which I believe I have done.

Could anyone tell me if they have successfully enabled connecting a hard drive to their router on their Sonos set up and how they have achieved this, and if I need to correct the path or settings to make this work?

Which Sonos app are you using?

if you are using the S1 app SMB v1 would be the correct setting, but if you are using the new app (S2) you will need to set SMB to v2 or v3. Sonos, like many other manufacturers, has dropped support for SMB v1 in the S2 app for a while now.

Hi,

I am using the latest app, so presumably the S2, but even using the Sonos web link outside of the app, I am unable to open the hard drive files attached to the router.

The challenge may be that the router’s OS received an update, which may have messed with the ability for Sonos to read the USB stick.

Many routers don’t even have this ability to emulate an NAS, it wouldn’t be surprising for them to have disabled SMB v1 in favor of a more ‘secure’ version of SMB.

Or, frankly, the router update may have messed with other settings. Unfortunately, QA teams don’t always catch every possible thing. Mostly as there’s seemingly an infinite list to check.  QA is hard.
