Seems I am not alone with this issue:

Sonos App on MacOS running Catalina 10.15.7.

Cannot add any of my own music library.

I have an ’offline’ library of around 50,000 songs, originally in managed in iTunes, and now in Apple Music, on the laptop. I do not run any streaming. And the music is stored on an External HDD. (Although I believe the library ‘database’ remains in the internal HD, in user/music. The library is shared in MAcOS settings.)

Downloaded the latest app - Sonos_79.1-53290.dmg and installed it. Head to Manage Music Library and click add music folders + sign. So far so far.

Here’s where it gets interesting: click on ‘My Music Folder’, and the whole app simply freezes, and has to be forced closed.

Click on Add ‘another folder or drive connected to my computer’, browse to the same folder Apple Music points to on the External drive, enter (my) administrators details, and for a good 10 minutes, it spins the disc, with ‘please wait, adding share information ton Sonos System’, followed by ‘unable to add shared folder to your music library, (913)’

I have tried all the steps identified here:

to no avail.

I suppose the saving grace is that the laptop seems to keep the Sonos system ‘going’, I can play music from Apple Music, and using the Macbook sound settings, route the music to the Sonos System.

The android app never seems to be able to access the system, and has to reset the system every time I open it.

Hi @ebevan

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of the issues you’ve been having with your Music Library.

At this stage, please only select the bottom option on the popup window - Networked device:

Before you do this, however, you’ll need to set up a shared network folder on your Mac to point Sonos towards. I recommend a read of this useful guide:

I hope this helps.

I have spent the time since I received this message following all the steps on the link, and in your email, and still, there appears to be a username and password issue for the networked drive.

For the record, my drive is not being accessed via the network, it is connected by USB.

In principle, the Sonos system is excellent, but the fact that I cannot add my own music library, as well as the mobile app basically not working at all, I wonder whether I have wasted a bucketload of cash.

Hi @ebevan

Sorry to hear that did not work for you. This page may be of use to you: No tracks from Mac USB drive in Sonos music library.

I hope this helps.
